2. Went out yesterday to shoot for this

Was more or less trampled by 4 pairs of, what I think is, greylag geese. With 25+ goslings on tow.

Sadly none of the shots were really spectacular - but I think I will post some of them in another thread.

So I picked the shot of the ducks relaxing in the sun.

25. Merh, are those Bonaparte's gulls?

They look just like the ones we get up here a little later in the spring. I think their heads are black only when they're mating.

While ornithologists and biologists are scrambling to get a handle on shore-bird populations since Hurricane Katrina, the concern about gulls isn't as great. In the Gulf Coast the native variety is the laughing gull, named because its call sounds like a laugh

They're small compared with the East Coast gulls. The tops of their wings are gray except for white edges with black wing tips. In summer, their heads are black and in winter, white with dark smudges. They're not being researched or studied.

18. One thing I've noticed is that every entry is voted "Best" by some number of people.

The numbers may vary, but with every photo submitted there are some people it will touch or inspire. Some get more votes, some less, but every entry is "best" for some. Stravinski not only got few votes but was booed off the stage during a performance of "Le Sacre du printemps." I'm sure several in the audience appreciated that masterpiece, but at least on DU no one gets booed off the stage by the petty elites.

I was sure you'd be posting a moose shot, I really thought I was going to use an elk shot. But then your shot was moose-less, and there had already been a few skinny antlers posted, so I decided fat antlers were the way to go. :rofl: Actually made my choice easier, since I couldn't decide on which elk shot I wanted to use.

21. I would have chosen either #1 or #2 to submit.

Crop out the moose butt on #2, of course. But they have the strength of showing both The Wild and the wildlife, the context, something that it missing from most entries.
