Poll question: Yes, it's another "Help me pick my picture" thread!
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 12:25 PM by intheflow
I'm completely flummoxed by what to enter in the dilapidated building contest. Please help!

Surfer Girl 1

Surfer Girl 2

Surfer Girl 3

Demo Arch 1

Demo Arch 2

New Fence, Old Building

Thanks! :hi:

1. Surfer Girl 2...
I know lots of other votes have gone to one of the other alternatives, but this stands out for me (actually, all three of the same location, but this is the better composition) simply because there's something so poignant about the sense that this was a place for fun and youth, now fallen apart and decayed. It's an extremely powerful image.

2. Something between one and two
Can you crop so you still get the sand and some of the pillars, but the surfer girl pops more? Demo Arch is a great photo, has some great colors and the tree is terrific, but it's kind of predictable. Surfer Girl is unique, if you could get the layout just right.

3. The light was awful that day.
It was really overcast but really bright, a weird weather combo that only seems to happen on New England beaches in January. This was facing into the sun and I couldn't get a satisfactory photo of the surfer girl that wasn't backlit. This is photoshopped within an inch of its life and that was the most "popping" result that didn't start to look like comic book art.

5. I see what you mean
I took it to crop a little, and you lose that under the docks feel very quick. I guess the Demo Arch is the best photograph, although I still like the concept of the surfer girl better. Maybe you could go back on a day when the lighting is different or something.

6. I'm not even sure this place is there anymore.
I took it on the NH coast almost a decade ago. I think it was hurricane damage, but regardless, its doubtful the town would allow beachfront to remain delapitated for that long. Not to mention I live in Denver now, so it would be hard to get out there to get another shot regardless.

4. Hlmm, I thought I answered this.
Maybe I just voted in the poll. Demo Arch #1 for me.
