A boy and his squirrel.
Last fall I met this squirrel in my back yard. It just hung out and watched when I grilled or smoked stuff on the back yard deck.

I built a feeder for her and the other 15 fuzzy tailed rats that inhabit the oak trees and dig in my potted plants. She took to it pretty well.

So well in fact that we got to know each other well enough to give her a name. Meet Honey Bunny, named for Susan Saranden's character in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Later I built her a little apartment above the feeder. There she briefly co-habitated with Stud Bunny. That's her on the inside peeking out. Stud is on the roof.

I had to take the feeder down 'cause my schnauzers were a menace to the furry community and having become somewhat enamored of Honey I feared for her safety. Still, in the evening, I can go out and call her down for some casual conversation and a snack or two.

What can I say? Life's good.

1. Every one of these, including the narration, are priceless.
I especially am drawn to the top three.
Thank you for these.

3. How cute
Our squirrels are a lot more skittish. Of course I haven't fed them or built them anything. Around here it might attract actual rats or raccoons.

I absolutely love the closeup.

I remember the dog I had growing up had a play routine with a squirrel. He fake chased it from one tree to another, all over our yard. But it was exactly the same path every single morning at the same time of day. I guess it was like each of them going to a choreographed exercise class at daybreak.
