Photo organizing software?

Can anyone recommend software to organize photographs? I don't need it to edit photos, just organize them.

I have almost 100 Gb of photos stored in folders on my hard drive by date. That's all well and good, unless I am looking for pictures of my cat. Then I have to click through all the folders looking for pictures of him. Or, if I want to find pictures of Sicily. I've been there on two separate occasions and thus they are in separate folders. Or, wildflowers, I take lots of pictures of wildflowers. I have pictures of flowers from Korea and Sicily, from spring, summer, and fall. What if I want to look at all wildflowers? Or only those from Sicily? Or those from Korea but from a certain area? Is there any software that will allow you to tag photos and then view photos with the tag "cat" or "Sicily" or "flowers + Korea + Upo," or even by a certain month and year?

1. If you have a Mac you can use smart folders

Bridge will let you tag them. iPhoto (Mac again) lets you tag and does facial recognition, also location recognition.

I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones I know about.

2. I use Lightroom

Which allows each photo to be tagged with keywords. So if I want a cat photo, I can just search for "Cat" and all the photos I tagged will pop up.
Problem is you have to tag them. Going through thousands of photos to do so is a long project.

4. It moves along rather quickly

I love Lightroom and it's easy to block a group of photos and tag that block with one or multiple tags at the same time. Plus I love the ability to rate and color code your shots, makes the workflow move very quickly.

3. Zoner Photo Studio Is Good

It will let you categorize, sub categorize, key words and it's also a pretty good photo editing program.
