Love of Shaker Village led to book
An old friend of mine . . .

Beautiful pictures!!

".. . His romance with the beauty and peace of the historic Kentucky site has resulted in a coffee-table book, “Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, 50th Anniversary of the Restoration,” featuring more than 260 iconic photographs commemorating its 1961 renovation.

. . . Landscapes of autumn farmland, dogwoods in spring, spinning wheels, spiral staircases, furniture and touching interior scenes of the site's remaining 34 structures make for riveting images in Toczko's book, which was 12 years in the making.

“There's no telling how many trips I've made up there to visit the place,” he said. “I had these images in my head and just couldn't capture them to my satisfaction in the lens of my camera. I took more than 30,000 photographs, some of them almost the exact same photos that are in the book, but they pale by comparison. It was a personal challenge to make them good enough, and at the time I wasn't even thinking about a book. I just had to go back to the drawing board.”

That involved taking pictures and more pictures, eight years of experimenting with light and shadow, depth and composition that transcended what he could do in a studio. . . "

1. Thanks for sharing this
Your friend did a wonderful thing. Took a look at his web site. Can't spring for his book right now but I've saved it so I can get it later.
