MAP sensor on an Olds Cutlass Ciera - need advice!
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 01:07 PM by giant_robot
I've been having problems with my '91 Olds stalling lately. I did a scan and it came back code 34: MAP sensor voltage low. Replace MAP sensor.

Does anyone on the board have experience replacing a MAP sensor? Is it an easy job? Where is it located? Is it OK to replace it with a used part? The part is about $210 (new), and I'm a poor grad student, so I'd rather do it myself.

I'd appreciate any input you can give.

Thanks.

1. You probably have a 3.1 liter v6
that is like my departed 89 celebrity w/ 2.8l v6. I remember working "around" the MAP sensor when changing my head gaskets.

It should be easy. I recall it is located on the air intake plenum "near" the throttle-body (the big butterfly valve) with the throttle cables attached. Unplug the wires, and take the screws out. I cannot recall if it is in front or in back. You should get a Haynes manual ~$15 or try the library. I know of some yahoo groups who focus on the GM A-body cars. I will send you links if you care.

As for used, I don't know. Call for a price at the salvage place.
