Liberal Christian/Faith Reading:
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 01:10 PM by GreenPartyVoter
I am so excited because I have copies of the Access Bible and Borg's "The Heart of Christianity" coming to me in the mail.

Hubby's church has been reading the Rick Warren book, "The Purpose Driven Life" in Sunday School class. It's ok, but still a little too conservative in its thinking for my tastes. Wish I could get these people to read Borg, but they'd probably drive me crazy trying to "save" me from his ideas.

Feh. Hard to be a pluralistic universalist in a fundagelical church.

3. I highly recommend
Phillip Yancey.....especially What's So Amazing About Grace and The Jesus I Never Knew.

I haven't read Borg. I haven't read Rick Warren's book....the title was enough for me. I often wonder if conservatives ever just enjoy their spiritual life. Do they ever just ENJOY their relationship with the Lord or all they always striving to meet some legalistic standard?

4. I'm reading David Yount
"What Are We To Do? Living the Sermon on the Mount"

It's on the short side, but it takes a very close look at the Book of Matthew, using alternate translations of the verses, and citations from people of many denominations.

"God's Politics" - why the right gets it wrong, and the left doesn't get it.

BTW - I heard that Jim Wallace is going to be on The Daily Show on Tuesday night (repeated Wed. morning & early evening). FYI.

6. My parents like Phillip Yancey --
He seems to be a nice bridge from traditional background to more progressive thinking. I know that my mom especially has said that he has really changed her thinking about many things.

Another person my mom started reading and quotes often is Brennan Manning. I don't know much about him - whether he is "conservaitve" or not, all I know is that she quoted a couple things he said and they were really excellent - like I'm very comfortable with my mom reading these guys...
