My first goal toward Triathlon
is to double my swimming speed

Right now I can almost do a half mile in a half hour.

I checked some triathon results to see what was a reasonable goal in swimming for over 40 Athena triathletes and it seems like 35 minutes is somewhere around average.

Thanks to MissMillie's math help I figured 91 lenths is 1.5 meters, so I have to go from 41 lengths to 91.

I wonder how many times a week and for how long it will take?

1. I haven't even made it into the pool yet
The pool here at work (I work at a college) isn't open for open swim during lunch, and I'm trying to figure out how to get home late one night a week so that I can stay late for a swim.

2. If I add a length a week
I should reach my goal in a year.

My goal is the 2007 NYC Triathlon.

3. So I increased from 40 lengths to 41
And I had time to spare.

next week I'm going for 43 lengths.

I have to learn how to do that swimmers flip swimmers do when the reach the end of the pool.

Also after two weeks of strength work I feel such a change in length strength. Knocking on wood but I think I might actually be recovered from my knee surgery.

4. well, I swallowed a lot of pool water yesterday
But I increased my number of lengths to 42. I also increased my mike mileage from 4.39 miles to 4.51 and on my weight training day I increased either amounts or reps or sets on each machine.

6. Thanks
I just got a really short hair cut so my head won't freeze on the way home from the pool (under a hat) - so I must be really into this!

7. Wow, what a difference 1 month makes
I'm almost finished my first 4 weeks of training.

I've gone from being stiff and almost in constant pain, feeling shaky going up and down stairs -

to being almost pain free - I was taking advil everyday, now I'm taking it sporatically. I can run up and down stairs and my legs feel so much stronger.

My only problem is I have this nagging pulled calf muscle - it was just about feeling healed and then during the Giants game on Sunday I jumped up from the couch when Tiki Barber ran for 40 yards and pulled it again.

But other than that I'm feeling SO much better.
