Happy Day! We found some cousins in Mayo
...on Achill Island. Also the gravestone of my great Grandfather. We're in communication and it's just grand.

1. Very cool.
How did you accomplish this? Digging up documents? Contacting family history centers? On-the-ground research?

2. I knew they were there somewhere but couldn't get time to find
them on a tour to Achill. Then my son went on his own and was told to go to the pub there and his cousins were told he was there and they came to see him. Next day he was taken to my greatgrandfather's grave to have a picture taken. We're going to all keep in touch. It's so great to ear a brogue again...brings back my childhood.

3. That's amazing.
Just the thought of your son going to his great-great-grandfather's grave. I'm sure that picture is one you'll treasure.

What's the date on the stone, by the way? Did the gravestone itself provide any new information?

4. The date was 1903
and it showed that my grandfather and his sister had gone back to Ireland to erect that tombstone for their father. Truly amazing.
