The "It's My Birthday and Keith Better Shout Out To Me" edition 1/12/06
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 08:00 PM by Clark2008

Shhhh... don't tell anyone I'm ancient today!!

:hi: KOEBers. My honey's slaving away in the kitchen making me dinner! I am drinking a fat-free, carb-free dirty martini and awaiting shrimp and asparagus.

Keith is waiting to make my birthday night special!!

:loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: Keefie!!

What kind of tie do you want? I still say ORANGE!

I bet she must only weigh 50 pounds and the rest is pancake makeup and hairspray.

It sucks that women have to look so "young" on TV and men can age, but, really, shouldn't she be a little less made up to be taken more seriously?

27. So what do all ya'll think about Alito?
I think he's gonna get confirmed, but I think that if the Dem leadership doesn't suck it up and filibuster, they're gonna lose some support. At least, gauging by the volume of hysteria in GD today.

And I have my doubts that they'll filibuster. We also have to remember that DU doesn't necessarily represent the opinions of a majority of the rest of the Dems out there. I think sometimes our view of what the liberal side of the population thinks is skewed.

Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 10:35 AM by gkhouston
I think the Dems should filibuster even if they feel it's a lost cause, simply because Alito is such a spectacularly bad nominee. If the Dems won't filibuster, which to my mind is a way of standing up and saying, "Hell, NO! This guy stinks to the high heavens and you know it!", I do think they'll lose some support. Yeah, they'll still get the big contributions from businesses, but individual contributions may go down and they may have a harder time finding volunteers for their campaigns. Or they might just find their butts on the street.

And I'm pretty sure we're gonna need a meeting of the DUDQ next week. :-)

38. Hi Sharon!
I guess KO has not read this book. I agree with Oprah, it doesn't change the 'emotional truth' of the book. I don't think she is backing him up to save her reputation, I think she is genuinely touched by the book, as I certainly was.

85. Sorry, Bun-Bun, I have no problem with the "emotional truth," but if
"emotional truth" is all it has, it should be sold as FICTION. That's why FICTION is written. That's what it's FOR.."emotional truth."

I mean, Charles Dickens didn't say he WAS David Copperfield. He wrote a STORY about a FICTIONAL kid and it rang with emotional truth. That's what fiction is supposed to do.

What people are all worked up about is this guy saying that everything that happened in the book was true or passing it off as true. It apparently is NOT.

And I have news for him, too: Contrary to what he said in that CNN interview, "memoir" does NOT literally mean "my story"! It means "memory"! As in something one REMEMBERS as having HAPPENED!

The French for "my story" is "mon histoire"!

I'm surprised Ms. Charbonnier's son didn't bother to correct him on that one!

91. I agree, I'm really annoyed with the guy for writing such a redemptive
novel and inspiring all kinds of people and then having it turn out he is lying about many details. I wish he had sold it as a novel with some resemblence to his own life, then none of this would be happening. While what Frey says about being in an alcoholic haze affecting his memory covers the time before rehab, in rehab he was sober, and he certainly would've remembered whether or not he had root canal without novocaine and whether or not he went to jail for 3 months or 1 day. Those 'exaggerations' are really troubling. I didn't make it clear in my post, I still found the book to be 'emotionally truthful' as Oprah said, the controversy will keep more people from reading it and it has many important thoughts and philosophies about the nature of addiction and life in general. I'll admit, the guy was just lame during his interview, and made himself look twice as guilty of deception of his readers, he even looked somewhat smug when Oprah called in to defend him. I liked him before, after reading the book, not so much now. It's disappointing. I have an alcoholic in my family, the book was especially poignant and illluminating to me so I'm trying not to let that be spoiled. I don't want to trash everything about the book just because the author behaved like a cad, that's all.

75. Hi and thanks all
Now if I can just find something to watch after KO, everything else is such a let down. I recently put a tv in the sewing room to watch KO and mess with my hobby at the same time. Guess it's time to take the wireless laptop in too. No, I'm not spoiled. :-)

76. LOL- I have been rewarding myself by watching KO
at the end of the day in my comfy bed with my wireless laptop. I'm not
spoiled either! O8)

And its fun to be here in the KOEB while he's on.

87. Poor Keith. I think he's weakening.
He needs encouragement in this no-smokes thing. :loveya: Please, Keith, keep it up. For your sake. Not just because it will be REAL embarrassing if you don't.

59. "Associates"
If any employer EVER calles me an "associate" I'm quitting pronto. Only Wal Mart employees and lawyers are "associates."

Scott's stuff is crap, anyway. The good fertilizer is organic. This stuff is a little too much big brother for me.

61. Many, many of our clients -- Fortune 1000 companies
call their employees associates, as does my firm. It's very common.

68. It's just so "corporate"
It's the same attitude that leads to putting up those horrible "Successories" posters. At my company, we put up the "Despair, Inc." posters instead.

88. It reminds me of Panera Bread
where, when they take your order, they say "May I help the next GUEST in line, please?" You just know that when they were employed, they were told to refer to all customers as "guests."

I don't think it merits WPITW, though. I mean, I've heard about this kind of thing before.

89. But what if the poor cat had died?
Of course, this is an excellent illustration of why they say cats have nine lives...you know, that and the one that went to France accidentally, etc.

92. Five days? It takes her FIVE DAYS to wonder where Fluffy is?
Apart from not having had enough sense to keep the cat away from the construction whilst in progress, I'm trying to imagine why it took the owner that long to think that maybe the cat was walled up. Then again, Mary always counts the cats before she's going to be out of the house for more than a few hours, to be sure nobody's strayed into a closet (ever since the time someone did spend most of the day in a closet :-().

80. Happy birthday, Clark!
 :toast: :applause:

And many more!

I guess I was the only one miffed at Keith for the Chappaquiddick jokes, huh? Keith didn't mention that the book's proceeds are going for charity. :grr:

By the way, I've known for ages that Kennedy has a dog named Splash, and my smart aleck gene never even kicked in.

90. Sorry, but I'm not miffed. I guess this is what Keith and I have in common
We're both not Democrats, so we don't automatically get our danders up when a Democrat does something ridicule-worthy, we just go "Oh boy..."

I'm sorry, but Chappaquiddick is just the kind of thing that doesn't go away. And certainly it's as relevant as Dems bringing up the fact that Laura Bush killed someone with a car back in '64. Each side would prefer that we just "forget all about that"...but some people never will.

Sorry, didn't mean to spoil the party. But the whole idea of Ted not realizing maybe it isn't the best of ideas for him to co-write a book, so to speak, with a dog named Splash...that's what I watch Keith for. He's a full-service snarker. Heck, if he wasn't, would he be making fun of Jim Traficant's toupee?

97. I thought it was pretty stupid of Kennedy to name his dog Splash
*AND* have the dog write a book. Sorry, but anyone with half a brain could see the jokes coming a mile away, and he, or SOMEONE near to him, should have had the sense to avoid it.
