3. Congrats!
I've never tried them...but I'm mostly smoke free for several weeks now just using the patch (which, btw, is very cheap in Mexico).

4. Been on e-cigarettes for a week
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 07:41 PM by jberryhill
I was going to give it a "try" to reduce smoking tobacco.

I have 2/3 of a carton, ashtrays and lighters everywhere, and have not had a tobacco cigarette for a week.

I don't think it is for everyone, and there are some pluses and minuses, which I'll write up after I've run this for a while.

But I've been smoking for more than 20 years, and haven't had a cigarette this week, and haven't wanted one either.

5. yup. Hubby quit immediately too. I've had them since 11-11-08 and here's what I know
get a USB powered batt and a USB portable power supply and use the batteries for back ups only or when carrying a power supply is a pain

get the juice and empty cartridges, fill em yourself and top them off often.

clean the atomizers daily with canned air or at least blow them out and let them drain daily, and make sure to have a couple you rotate and a new backup always ready. If you huff them tooo hot, the wire breaks, so switch them back and forth to make sure they don't get too hot.

I still am smoking about 1/2 a pack a week, but that's a far cry from my 2 pack a day habit and we just remodeled so the house doesn't stink anymore (unlike my car sadly...)

6. Yup... good summary

That's what I've learned in a week. Picked up a USB LiIon pack with 1 A output today (Kensington Portable Power Pack for Mobile Devices (K38021US)), and have the USB pass-through arriving tomorrow (for a DSE901), along with backup atomizers. After reading about unreliability of the batteries on the smaller ecigs, I was getting nervous and scarfed down a lot of information in a hurry.

I made a nice case for it all, and was going to post pics, but the main ecig forum went down. The LiIon pack is about the size of an iPod, and can recharge my phone when I'm not vaping.

I'm thinking of switching off the coffee/tobacco flavored juice and onto something that doesn't associate with the taste of tobacco.

I think part of what's put me off of smokes is that I may have increased my nicotine consumption the first two days or so. Given the choice, and keeping everything in reach all week, I haven't touched a regular cigarette, and my wife continues to smoke (and, yes, the smoke is starting to bother me).

The initial cost in a reliable apparatus might be a little off-putting, but I think I'll hit payback sooner than I thought (I was 1.5 - 2 packs a day).

7. hubby is still vaping the tobacco flavors
I am on only cherry and vanilla

that's something I might try, when I'm thinking I'll go have a 'real' cig maybe I'll break out one of the tobacco flavored certs I have and do that instead

10. Where do you get the juice
and empty cartridges? Just got mine in the mail. Instructions say a cartridge is as good as a half pack. That would make them very expensive. I ordered mine from Costco.

does that mean you need to buy the atomizer and battery somewhere else? Confused.

20. "Roll" your own
Don't buy pre-filled cartridges. Fill them yourself with juice and Lipton Pyramid Tea Bags for stuffing. Check it out here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/

PS - One cart does not equal a half pack. It's more like 5-7 cigs depending on how you vape.

13. Best thing since sliced bread.
Seriously, I think these things are amazing.

I have two-a dse901 and a penstyle. I didn't buy them to quit, I just wanted to cut back by about 50%. I've easily cut back by 50-75%.

I highly recommend this forum http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ to anyone considering getting an e-cig. I read it for several weeks before ordering and I think I saved a lot of money and aggravation by reading up on them first. There are some great suppliers in the suppliers section of the forum, although lately they've had problems keeping things it stock. Still, it's worth the wait because the products are better and less expensive than the ones being sold at kiosks and stores.

There is some concern that the FDA is going to ban these. That would suck so much.

14. I just got an order in from China (David Yang)
www.eastmall.net

surprisingly fast too, once they clear customs (about a week) they are express mail and arrive anywhere in the US in a couple days.

he's cheap and I'm very pleased with the quality. we only do the pen styles but I like what I see so far.

and I'm happy to pay taxes if the FDA will leave us alone.........

Edited on Mon Mar-23-09 09:08 PM by pamela
I might do an order through them in the future. So far I've only bought from US suppliers to avoid having my stuff go through customs but I may try Eastmall. I was on their site the other day and their prices are great.

Some bad news in the e-cig world today:

Senator seeks to halt sales of 'e-cigarettes'
By KIMBERLY HEFLING
Associated Press Writer
Posted: 03/23/2009 12:27:29 AM PDT

WASHINGTON—A senator is asking the government to prevent the sale of so-called "electronic cigarettes" until more is known about them. E-cigarettes are marketed as a healthier alternative to smoking and as a way to kick the habit. They are smokeless and battery-powered, releasing a nicotine vapor into the lungs.
New Jersey Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg sent the Food and Drug Administration a letter Monday saying that the agency should ensure e-cigarettes are not sold until they've been studied more.
An FDA spokeswoman says the agency will respond directly to the senator regarding his concerns.

24. The E-cigarettes that I have just started using are not smokeless.
They are the BluCigs.com. But they are good. I have just started using them and I think they will help me break the habit.

19. Been vaping a Joye 510 for almost a week now
I've gone from over 2 packs of cigarettes per day to less than 10 real cigarettes a day and hope to quit tobacco altogether by the end of the week. I still have to have the real thing in the morning and after meals though. If I can break that habit I think it will work with e-cigs.

For anyone wanting to learn about e-cigs, here's a terrific discussion board:

23. Been on V2cigs for two months now. Was pack a day for around 23 years.
Haven't had one since I started the V2s. It's around a 1/3 the cost. The cartridges say they are = to a pack, but not really the case. Will have to wean myself off by getting a lower nicotine version when I get back from the UK. (Over there a pack is easily 10.00)

I prefer the "manual" version vs. the automatic as it lets you control the "burn".

This stuff rocks!!!! Good luck to all.

25. That's great. Congratulations!
I similarly smoked at least a pack a day for 23 years as well until I quit a few months ago. I wanted to quit the whole time, but I think it really took me that long to figure out what I needed to do.
