For anybody with ancestry.com subscriptions
Please watch these people carefully. When I had a monthly subscription they 'forgot' regularly to notify me of the automatic payment. Last year they switched me to a yearly subscription without notification or authorization.

We went through some nasty emails and phone calls before I let it go for last year and got the promise that it would never happen again.

Today I opened my Amex bill to find that they charged me a year's subscription...again without notification or authorization. It ISN'T going to be allowed to pass this year. And I will never do business with them again.

Their ethics are very Republican.

1. Yep.
I just did my 2 week free subscription with them...and they called me about 4 days into all perky and chipper and wanted to know if I was find any great stuff.

"Yep." I said.

"So are you going to extend your membership?" he asked.

"Nope," I said. He sounded very flustered and frustrated, and didn't understand why. I told him I didn't like the fact that ancestry had bought up all the free sources for people to look up their information, and I had heard plenty of nightmare stories about people being charged when they weren't supposed to be, or submitting information that was later published and incorrect.

I told him I was just using them to get the 1930 censuses that weren't available through godfrey.org yet, and I wanted copies of some draft registration cards. Other than that, I told him they were destroying genealogy and I hated their business practices.

I think he about had a heart attack.

Then, I called up precisely 2 days before my freebie was to expire, and the girl kep telling me I could extend it. I must have told her 3 times, "Cancel it immediately. I do NOT want to have to think about this membership beyond today. You say call you 2 days before expiration. I'm DOING that. Please cancel it as I've asked."

2. They doubled-charged me for a subscription...
...when I agreed to go for the yearly subscription (I had the monthly).

And, I thought Mormons were honest...:eyes:

5. I thought Ancestry.com had no affiliation.
Are you thinking of familysearch.org, which is run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? I thought Ancestry was just a business. This is the first I've heard of any affiliation with the Mormons.

7. Orem is a very Mormony town
The owners probably are Mormon, but the business itself is not owned or operated by the church.
