Lavenderdiva, thanks for pointing me to this forum --
I want to be a DU Weight Whomper!!!

I don't know if I've met any of you in the DU Lounge or on GD. I'm Radio Lady, age 66, approximately 169 lbs and 5 ft. 2 in. Tonight I just made (another) decision to get serious about weight loss.

You can read our initial thread tonight at:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=3704854&mesg_id=3704854

I'll be back at you when I've caught up on some of your names and suggestions.

I'm glad to see you found us here! We'd certainly love to have your input, suggestions, feedback, and support! After all, we're all in this together, just trying to stick to whatever program, or eating plan each of us feels most comfortable with, or whatever has proven successful to each of us. Some days are easier than others, but this is a great place to come to, when you've had success, or are finding the day/week hard. There's always someone to respond and help... Welcome! :hi:

Just had never explored the whole site. I could be on this computer all day, but that's one of the problems. Too much DU!!!!!! Not enough exercise!!! My husband reminded me that I should STOP EATING at my desk. It's messy and annoying and a good way to lose track of what I'm eating.

Just wanted to mention again that this week's "People" magazine (July 25, 2005) has a terrific article on folks who have lost a great deal of weight. The article appears on pg. 80 of the actual magazine, entitled "Half Their Size" -- I found it very encouraging that none of these people did anything drastic -- no bariatric surgery -- no tricks! Make my paltry weight look easy to conquer.

Go to:

http://people.aol.com/people/articles/0,19736,1082799,00.html

Well, that's the cover and the table of contents. (Maybe it isn't working as I had expected. I thought you could use the Insider Access Code: ENTICING to see this issue, but apparently not... sorry..:-(

I'll weigh myself before breakfast tomorrow morning. I usually weight only once a month, but haven't done it in about three weeks.

This has been a good day. Tomorrow is another hurdle I can jump -- water aerobics class in the morning at 9 AM. Going to get back in the swing of it for sure!

4. i decided to check this out
after i saw that lounge thread last night!

two years ago, i lost about 30# on atkins (well, i tweaked it to add more carbs, because i was landscaping and needed them). it seemed to be 'child-bearing fat,' and i kept it off until last winter. then i started munching the wrong foods and not walking as much. about 15# came back. i am also in menopause. or beyond it. my body is shifting in places, and extra weight is suddenly hard to lose. i put on 5# in two weeks for no reason. someone said this is menopausal.

so... this summer, with my kids at their dad's house, i decided to get back on a better eating plan and start up the physical exercise again. (i'm not landscaping anymore, so it's more of an effort to get enough exercise.) but one of my daughters came home for two weeks, and the plan went all to hell! she just left last night, so now i'm back on it. they'll be back in a few weeks, school will start, and my schedule will change. i REALLY need to be able to stick with good eating and exercise. that is the challenge.

so here i am to read, get support and ideas.

5. Welcome genevat!
Glad to see you here! I hope you find what you need here, and we could use your support too!!

I too need to get back to my own version of Atkins, as I felt sooo much better physically, and was actually losing some weight! lately, I've gotten sidetracked, but need to get back to what I know I need to do. I have been suffering from Planters faciitis (sp?) on my foot; its extreme pain in the bottom heel. I read online that it is frequently in obese women. hello, lavenderdiva! Sometimes, I can't even walk on it, and I'm only 47. I feel decrepit! Bottom line, I need to lose weight, so my feet won't hurt so bad it feels like knives are stabbing me, and I'm able to be fully mobile. One would think that would be sufficient motivation.

I too, have symptoms of menopause, and it sucks. that's about all I can say about that.

Sounds like you are getting it together, and getting your eating plan underway! Congratulations!
