What's the most productive way to deal with objectionable threads?
I alerted on this thread about Jean Schmidt because she's been referred to as a witch, a bitch, a chatty Kathy doll and a hag. I'm a Dem and support her opponent. Yes, she's a walking talking point for the GOP. But for crying out loud.

1. Alert, and move on
words are very powerful and many demean women. I thought about starting my own thread. I was going to say "Hi, girls". Then I thought of my feminist ex-best friend. (Whom I still love dearly.) Gawd, she used to get mad if someone called us 'girls'. "We are women"! She could be kinda jerk-y, to guys if they did not address her properly. What about 'gals', ladies, mam, miss, girlfriend, woman, wife, madam, hey you,....and there are many very negative descriptors as we all know. Much of it the Madonna/Whore Complex. GOOD woman or BAD woman. GOOD woman: virginal / Bad woman: despoiled Very black and white. Very freeperish. It's the submission thing. Use bad words to make women less than equal. Although, I really do hate, Anne Coutler, and have a few foul, gender specific, words I like to call her. But, does any woman I hate deserve to be called names, probably not, but I'm still going to do it. 'Bitch', is the first thing that pops into my head if I'm pissed off, under the right circumstances. Sometimes it fits. And sometimes it can be used 'wrong'. I don't go around calling all other women 'bitches' all the time like a 'pimp' does, either. Circumstances dictate.

2. The real test
Is when it's a woman I find disagreeable, such as Coulter. It takes a lot of effort on my part not to resort to the usual sexist slurs to describe her. But in the end it's really not worth it, even with her. It's an easy, cheap shot, to attack another woman's appearance or call her a bitch or whore. That's what Coulter does. She is hateful, vicious, and stupid. Her looks and/or sexuality have nothing to do with it.

3. Locking
Again, the function of this forum is not to call out other threads on DU. That remains against DU rules.
