WHITE HOUSE PUPS

BILOXI - There's a little Biloxi in the White House.

And it's getting bigger every day. It's a black and white puppy, the offspring of a Katrina stray, adopted by a White House staffer.

In April, when an advance team for President Bush came to Biloxi to tour the Hands On Network volunteer center that is based at Beauvoir Methodist Church, they e-mailed staff back at the White House photos of puppies that the president would see when he visited the camp. There was a pen of puppies, all offspring of dogs abandoned after Katrina.

1. Awesome!
Headline should read, "The president does something good for a change."

I love that they interviewed Ben Waldman. At Hands On he's known as "Animal Ben" because there are two other long-termers named Ben. (Chicago Ben and Bicycle Ben, respectively.) Animal Ben is a lovely young man who'll be attending the University of Denver in September, right down the block from our apartment here in Denver. The other good thing about Animal Ben? He's about as liberal and progressive as they come!

Thanks for the story, merh!
