13. Why do they label Colbert's speech
a comedy routine. Colbert was presenting biting political commentary. His talk was an editorial that pointed out all the faults, all the lipstick-on-a-pig crap this administration has gotten away with for 5-6 years (counting the 2000 campaign). His pointing out that the MSM has been complicit through it all is what keeps it from being reported for what it is. Notice that the Hindenburg was shown on KO but where were Colbert's very pointed and very accurate comments regarding the Media?

The MSM want this one down the memory hole as fast as possible. Maybe more so than the administration itself.

Bush was funnier than Colbert. But it's like saying Bob Hope was funnier than Lenny Bruce.

16. Unlike Comedy Central, KO has Corporate Masters who
are heavily invested in the Military-Industrial Machine. Every now and then, he must feed them a bone. He's the Tweety of Info-tainment ... you never really know where he'll come down. :(

17. Oh, PLEASE don't insult him by comparing him to Tweety!
He has never let me down before, as far as I'm concerned. In fact, he said some very pointed things tonight, aside from this. And he's already gone on record as saying that GE doesn't care what he says on the air so long as it gets viewers and sells ads. I believe him, too. They're in business to make money...and not just from the defense industry.

I can't help but feel that his reason for being such a letdown here has to do with some notion he has that if someone invites you to speak at their event, you can needle and rib and poke fun, but you can't draw real blood because it would be an insult to those who invited you.

As for me, I'm just delighted someone like Colbert had the guts to do it.

12. George comes out ahead because his bit was funnier
and got more play in the media. So says Milbank. Ehh, I don't know about that Dana. I guess it depends who you ask about it.

You know, through all of this Colbert analysis, something Lewis Black said on Randi's show back on Election 2004 Hangover Day keeps popping up in my head, and that was ( very loosely quoting from memory), "I've gone easy on Bush in my act, but that's over now." I know bringing that up has little to do with this week's events, and I guess I'm not even making a point with it, really, but I can't stop thinking about it and smiling when I do.

14. The Question Was "Was It Funny"...Colbert Was More Truth Than Funny
Of course a lot of those zingers weren't funny...they were painful. Damn straight. That's what great satire is...and what Colbert is all about. The Washington Press association should have known this (which looks like someone didn't do their homework) or else they could have invited Shecky Greene (if he's still around) or Dennis Miller :puke:

Colbert surely knew this was a unique moment and opportunity...and the ultimate set up for this character. Damn straight a Milbank wouldn't find it funny...it hits too close to home and he and the other beltway stenographers think they're too cool for the room and hate being shown up. Colbert was skewing them with their own words as well as showing how out of touch all in that room were. Since they live in the bubble they saw it nothing more than a malcontent...not viewed from the clearer air of reality.

To these doofus', a comic sits and does Henny Youngman one-liners.

The other irony I noticed...after watching this event live and then a replay, is how uncomfortable and embarassing it was to see booosh up with that Leno double. Here is the "most powerful man in the world", being made to look like a stupid rube and apparently enjoying it. That was embarassasing for even me to watch...and of course the lapdog corporate stenographers either thought it was "funny" or "cute".

But then, if Colbert had mentioned a blue stained dress, ya wanna bet that would have been quoted all day????
