7.5 LB Perch?
The largest Yellow Perch on record in Texas is 1.04 lbs. The largest Nile Perch on record is 12.06. The Nile Perch is a non-native species that was introduced in lakes in the 80's. Most died off because of cold temperatures. Also they will destroy most of the other fish in your lake.

What kind of perch did Bush catch? He probably caught a largemouth bass. For a bass, 7.5 lb is a good size fish and one you would brag about. But obviously Bush doesn't know the difference.

1. A lot of people call Talapia
Nile Perch, which it is not.

Talapia die off when it gets too cold but I don't think they destroy any of the other fish in the lake. I'm pretty sure they're vegetarian.

However, Talapia can get very big and supposedly are very good to eat.

2. Hate to stick up for * but it was a translation error.
from english to german back to english .... a DUer posted this

The German article uses the word "Barsch," which is translated in my Langenscheidt's German-English dictionary as "perch." However, I did a little further checking online and found that both "bass" and "perch" are rendered as "Barsch," so you may be right.

6. He didn't catch it in Africa.
If he caught a 7.5 Nile Perch here in Texas, it was shipped in, like Cheney's quail. They don't grow that large here and the ones stocked in the 80's died off. Also they were nightmares in the lakes, destroying other species. I understood his fishing extends as far as his private lake on his ranch. Kinda like shooting fish in a barrel. No Cheney joke intended.
