Sorry, but even from Bush, a lie about the size of a fish should get a pass.

Don't let the fact that he lies about everything else cloud your judgement of this particular issue!

I used to hear these tales of the Great Walleyed Whales of Lake Superior....

Yellow Perch is 1.06 lbs. Real fish stories may stretch the truth a little but not that far.

2. I wanna know - where's the picture???
I'd certainly think that if he did catch a big fish, someone would have been there to capture the moment - would have been the perfect photo op. I bet the little weasel never caught anything on HIS lake.

how people can see someone actually tell a fucking WHOPPER of a lie.... and give them a pass on it.

Especially when it's someone as pathological of a liar as he is.

For shame...

20. Fish stories are fish stories.
There's a reason the term "fish stories" is commonly used for a suspect tale, any why we say something is "fishy" when a story doesn't quite add up. Telling fish stories is an ancient and well practiced pasttime...hell, it's half the fun of fishing! The six inch fish becomes a 12 inch fish, and the 5 minute struggle to land than 18" salmon becomes your four hour blood-struggle with "Old Scaley, the nine foot long, sixty year old lord of the northern fisheries".

There is a difference between telling a tall tale, and telling a lie. Fishermen generally understand that when someone tells a fish story, it's very unlikely that the story happened the way it was told. We expect it, it's part of the culture.

Or talk about long distance telephone calls as an incredible future technology?

Bush will get grief for crap like that. I expect him to lie about the size of lots of things.

That is why I find it so amusing. :)

Bush is honest about his greatest achievment being to catch a fish. And in all likelyhood, he even had to LIE about that! :D

Saying Bush couldn't have caught a 7# perch because YELLOW perch only go to about 1# is disengenuous. The man has enough REAL lies and fuckups that have cost 1000's of lives. Can we concentrate on that instead of making shit up to slam him with?

Another possibility...

Edited on Mon May-08-06 02:55 PM by yellowcanine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walleye

And some people call it a pikeperch or yellow pike.

I am sure it is sometimes loosely referred to as a perch in some quarters. It would be an accurate term, as it is in the perch family.

On edit: I should add - whatever they are called, they are damned fine eating, as is the yellow perch.

33. Here's the thing: Chimpy probably meant to say BASS, not PERCH.
But he can't come out and explain the error because it would become obvious that the knows nothing about fishing, has no interest in doing any fishing, and only went fishing so that he could pose for the papanazzi.

So, he's stuck in a corner, again running from any hint of truth.

This is what the presidency has been reduced to.

40. He probably caught a Talapia
An exotic introduced species that is also called Nile Perch. Not to be confused with real Nile Perch which don't live here.

Talapia get very large and are 'good' eating, except for the mercury and pollution content.

However, since they aren't 'native' they tend to die in large numbers whenever it gets very cold. Not a pleasant thing but the vultures clean up the mess in no time.
