Are these talk shows rehearsed?
I've heard that Repugs often rehearse the questions with the host, or at least set the parameters of what is discussable, before they go on a talk show. On many occassions they seem to answer questions to quickly . I know I've heard this before, but don't have a source.
Anybody know about this?

1. Our people don't read and memorize the talking points
Just imagine if we were unified.

2. Robin Williams told Jon he was relieved to be on a show where
he could bring up politics. (he'd been on Ellen earlier). So, I concluded parameters are being set in advance.

12. I can imagine Ellen not wanting to discuss politics on her show
she took more than her fair share of criticism during the nineties...

3. Many talk shows are rehearsed. You do what is called a
pre-interview, and it usually happens with a staffer. They interview you, you tell them what you refuse to talk about, what you want to talk about, and you go over the Q and A a little bit. They dig up human interest crap in the context of these interviews, and the staffer will sometimes map out what order the questions will be asked.

It's why Jay Leno or David Letterman will suddenly ask a question out of the blue that they shouldn't have known about, of the "I hear you are quite the expert on underwater basket weaving?" type.

It happens on the political talk shows too. The guest wants a little prep and warning, and the host doesn't want dead air time.

4. I'm real interested in this. Do you have any links to help
me research this?

I just know that the Repugs are religious about making sure the questions easy for them.

I wonder what the interest would be in a non-rehearsed talk show?

Thanks for the feedback.

7. It's just common knowledge. Sometimes, the guests actually mention it.
If you want to see it in action, look at Gary Shandling's old sitcom. Janeane Garofolo played the pre-interviewer.

9. A NYC activist who organized an anti-Faux protest in 2001,

was interviewed on Hannity&Colmes that night. They did a pre-interview - where they found out she wasn't watching THEIR show. Then they let Colmes attack her on this: "How can you protest Fux when you don't watch US?"
(I later had a long correspondence with Colmes on the theme "your crappy little show ain't Fux" - I touched a nerve and he kept responding through the night.

6. I did a street interview once
It was a camera crew and a reporter and they asked me whether I wanted to answer some questions and they asked me three questions and then reasked the same questions in one go. It turned out that the first set was off camera and the second set was on camera. So even little things like that are "rehearsed" to ensure that the answers were acceptable.

10. That isn't the reason, often
It's to establish that the person has a cogent answer, to ensure that they can string a sentence together, and to calm their nerves. Some people go frozen in front of a camera.
