Democrats in the Beltway are Also 'out of touch'- they just don't get it
Edited on Thu May-11-06 02:58 AM by JCMach1
I agree with the assessment in this article that the American people are way ahead of Congress where it concerns the disaster known as *

...Pelosi is in for a big surprise.

She and the rest of the Democratic leadership (if they can really even be called such), are so scared of their shadows, so scared of challenging Republicans on anything but stem cells and Social Security, that impeachment has them cowering under rocks. The public is way out front on this, however, and if the party, despite its seeming death-wish desire to nominate Hillary Clinton for the presidency, somehow manages to win the House in November, there will be a clamor for Bush's head which will drag them along behind it.

All it takes is one rogue member of the House submitting a bill of impeachment to initiate the process in the Judiciary Committee, and if enough red-blooded Democrats come out and vote to oust Republicans this November, it would be political suicide for Pelosi and her spineless compatriots to try to kill that bill.

Several polls have made it clear that a majority of Americans, and even a fair number of Republicans, think that President Bush should face impeachment if he lied about the reasons for going to war in Iraq (as he indeed did) or if he broke the law in ordering the National Security Agency to spy on Americans (which he admits he did). (See my March 7 Article "Groundswell for Impeachment," on the 2006 archives page.)

Most Democrats, and I dare say most independents, aren't in a mood for conciliation with this president. They certainly aren't going to be electing Democrats in hopes that a new Democratic Congress will start compromising with Bush.

If voters do turn out the Republicans in Congress this fall, it will be because they are in the mood for reversing five years of corruption, war-mongering, nation-wrecking, lying, Constitution trashing, abuse of power and religious posing.

Impeachment will be red meat for these voters; compromise a red flag... http://www.freemarketnews.com/Analysis/154/4826/2006-05-09.asp?wid=154&nid=4826

Question: What are democrats doing to prevent the election fraud we have had in the past?

Jane
Palm Harbor, Fl.
Answer: Speaker Pelosi

<snip>

This Republican Congress, however, has been delinquent. Republicans have underfunded the requirements of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) by $800 million from authorized levels that are needed for provisional ballots, voting machines, and registration lists. Democrats stand united to provide these resources.

Thank God HAVA was underfunded. With full funding, we'd never win an election anywhere. HAVA exists for two fundamental purposes: (1) to force states into buying touch screens and (2) to provide states with federal dollars to do so. If states buy the machines we lose our most fundamental right, the right to see our vote taken, counted, and reported openly. Touch screens hide votes in unreliable private vendor software that, by contractual agreement, the states cannot inspect. It's bull shit. HAVA should be funded at Zero $$$'s.

Last August, it was my honor to march in Atlanta in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. I took with me the commitment of over 200 members of the House Democratic Caucus to reauthorize the expiring provisions of the Voting Rights Act, several key provisions which expire in 2007. We will work hard to strengthen the Voting Rights Act as Congress reauthorizes these provisions this year.

Great stuff!!! The renewal of Voting Rights is vital.

As Democrats, we believe that the right to vote must never be compromised. That is why we must be vigilant about the rights of the displaced voters of Hurricane Katrina - nearly 500,000 registered voters who have been displaced to 49 states. Just as the immediate response to the Hurricane was abysmal, just as the federal government continues to neglect the needs in our Gulf Coast, so has the response by the Bush Administration to ensuring the voting rights of Katrina survivors been an utter failure.

Right on target. These voters got screwed and were denied the right to vote by a Republican Louisiana legislature that made it virtually impossible for the Democratic Secretary of State to do outreach and allow evacuees to register and vote. She was on target and early on this.

FUNDAMENTALLY, however, the first point on needing more voting machines is a dead issue. Voting machines controlled by Republican vendors make "errors" in favor of Republican candidates by about a 90 to 10 ratio. WORSE, they deny the right, absolute, of citizens to election transparency. I hold the staff of Democratic leaders responsible for this wildly misguided policy of support for invisible ballots and hidden vote counting. No conspiracy here, just an unwillingness to take the issue seriously, you know, the issue of how Democrats get elected or, in the case of electronic voting, how they get cheated out of elections.

OH, of course, IMPEACH BUSH NOW!!! Nobody should be able to run, Republican or Democrat, without great pressure demanding impeachment. It's a matter of our nation's future and the survival of the planet, Earth!

4. I agree with you about "them" being out of touch.
But I disagree with you about impeachment. If Dems take the House and Senate this fall and proceed with that, they will pay for it in '08. Do you remember what happened to the GOP after the Clinton impeachment?

The business of running the country is more important than misguided vendettas. A win this fall means that it will be time to roll up the sleeves and get to work. There's a lot of fixin' to do.

12. I do not know what part of the world you are from my friend; however,
I believe the rest of the world has already judged. And judging from the number folks that are heading here from the rest of the world, I’d say they have made a positive judgment.

Of course, there are always the jealous ones.

I think that Americans will take care of American business.

13. Well, my friend, that is a rather interesting interpretation of this mess.
However, if boy george is a war criminal, so are 77 Senators, 296 Congressmen and several hundred thousand members of the armed services.

And then there a couple hundred million Americans...

8. Ha ha..
.. yeah right. The public didn't support Clinton's impeachment because they knew the charges were lame, lame, lame. Blowing your load on an intern vs. lying your ass off and taking your country into the most costly and unproductive war ever - sorry, the American public knows the difference even if you are too thick to.

15. Clinton lied and they didn't care.
And after 6-8 months of an impeachment proceeding, they will not care that Bush lied either. Moreover, they will become disgusted to the point that they will take it out on Dems in ’08.

Hopefully, Dems will be shrewd enough to not sink to the level of the GOP; for if they do, they will surely suffer the consequences.
