Why hasn't the NSA phone call story made our home page?
It's the USA Today centerpiece story, and you don't get more generic MSM than that!

The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth, people with direct knowledge of the arrangement told USA TODAY.
The NSA program reaches into homes and businesses across the nation by amassing information about the calls of ordinary Americans — most of whom aren't suspected of any crime. This program does not involve the NSA listening to or recording conversations. But the spy agency is using the data to analyze calling patterns in an effort to detect terrorist activity, sources said in separate interviews.

2. This should be ALL we are talking about!
If we can generate hundreds of threads about Colbert we should be able to generate heat about what I think is the biggest news story of the decade. Wake-up America! Your government is spying and tracking you and your conversations. It is illegal. It is unconstitutional. There is NO questionabout this. They have lied to you repeatedly about this.

20. not only that
but I remember when I was a customer of AT&T that they tracked all my places that I visited on-line as calls because they charged me, now I have unlimited calling with another company, but it seems to me that they can track the internet as well thru modem use.

3. Maybe the mods had a late night last night
and haven't shown up at work yet. All I have to do is grab a cuppa Joe and hit my den. I believe they have an office - but I could be wrong.

5. Can this be the straw that FINALLY breaks the Camel's back?
Will this, of all things, awaken the sleeping giant of the American Populace? If not this, what WILL it take to piss people off enough to revolt????????

7. I hear ya...
If this were France and similar news broke, they'd be dragging Chirac down the Champs Elysees to string him up at the Arc de Triomphe. What is wrong with Americans?

10. I have a feeling
This will be blown over by the media. "They're using it to track terrorists", "They're not actually listening to calls", and the ever present Republican defense: "It only affects you if you're doing something illegal... so I have nothing to worry about."

11. I don't think so. The article has Bush quote that it was only used to
track callers in US who made overseas calls. He's caught in a LIE... Our phone records were being given over to a huge Data Base which as the USA TODAY article says could be checked with other data bases to give our name, street address and social security numbers.

18. Oddly enough I'm relieved
For some reason I was under the impression that NSA had *always* been doing statistical analysis of phone traffic. If this is a new thing, then that's actually good news from my perspective since I thought they had been doing this all along.

19. Saw it reported on CNN - but
it was only half the story. Yes, AT&T, Verizon and BessSouth have been tracking Americans phone calls but, where is the rest of the story.

NSA investigation stopped when they refuse to give security clearance to investigators!!!

Since when does the NSA write the laws?
