Anyone Else See PBS Last Night on Rise of the 3rd Reich?
You know that was scary.

If we don't stop this adm. we could very easily end up the same way. Especially now that the racial fear is being pushed - Hispanics are taking over our world. Mexican children will dominate the next generation. It is just so easy to get people riled up over all the wrong things. You really have to pay careful attention to the propaganda.

The German economy was really bad - inflation and lots of people out of work. And lots of people were living in pretty bad conditions at that time. It was a struggle just to put food on the table. So people were very vulnerable to propaganda. And Hitler was one hell of a rabble rouser - his speeches were really something. And his propaganda machine was incredible.

And then the lunatics managed to take over the government. I think that we have come very close to having the lunatics take over our govt.

3. See? There's the difference!
"The German economy was really bad"

Our economy is in great shape - Smirk said so. :sarcasm:

Seriously - read "They thought They Were Free" by Milton Mayer. It's insomnia-inducing stuff when scrutinizing the * admin.

7. I don't think we are aware just how bad off the middle class will
have it when they try to retire. They don't have any money to retire on - millions and millions of people.

And millions more coming up with no pensions and no retirement plans. Along with having to pay for their own insurance and any other benefits. Salaries don't stretch very far when you take out 25% in taxes and then pay for your own insurance and benefits. Not much is left over for the basics.

My guess is that young people will simply not pay for insurance or retirement. You don't realize how important it is until you need it.

People's paychecks simply are not going to stretch to cover cost of living and benefits. There will always be too much month at the end of the money.

It will be a disaster of huge proportions.

4. I saw something the other day about Japan's role in WW II.
It mentioned how they felt they had a "divine mission" and a plan for a new world order. Sent shivers up my spine.

I just found these quotes, not from the program I saw, but on the same topics:

This pattern of government was superimposed on a society conditioned over centuries to militarism, authoritarian rule, and obedience to authority. The national religion Shinto held that the emperor was divine, that Japan was blessed by the gods, and that Japan had a divine mission to extend its rule and enlightenment to less fortunate races. The education system was designed to condition students to blind loyalty to the emperor, obedience to his will, extreme patriotism, and support for Japan's military aggression.

And straight from the horse's mouth, a quote from a 1943 Nazi propaganda booklet:

The Berlin-Rome-Tokyo alliance is a world-wide spiritual program of the young peoples of the world. It is defeating the international alliance of convenience of Anglo-Saxon imperialist monopolists and unlimited Bolshevist internationalism. It is showing the world the way to a better future. In joining the Axis alliance of the young peoples of the world, Japan is using its power not only to establish a common sphere of economic prosperity in East Asia. It is also fighting for a new world order. New and powerful ideas rooted in the knowledge of the present and the historical necessities of the future that are fought for with fanatical devotion have always defeated systems that have outlived their time and lost their meaning.

5. "Papers please!" - seems like a real possibility now in the U.S. That
noise you hear is the collective sound of the founding fathers and mothers rolling around in their graves.

6. I did not see it...
Did they say anything about the percentage of the population in prison at the time? Was it as high as it is in the US now?... Just wondering if there is a correlation...

8. No. I don't think that was the problem.
One of the problems was that Germany lost the 1st World War and people were still shamed by that. There was a strong sense of German pride.

Then the masses just had nothing. Jobs didn't pay anything. People lived in poor, cold housing because there just wasn't any money for anything. Lots and lots of people were out of work.

And then Hitler showed up with his stirring speeches and his dashing uniforms. And blamed every bad thing in the whole country on his scapegoats. And people just fell for it.
