Operation "CORRUPT DEMOCRATS" in full swing!

It is an awesome thing to behold the ability of BushCo to inject whatever strikes their fancy into the mainstream media. The latest operation being mounted by the GOP concerns Rep. Jefferson from LA and his corruption problem. Media outlets from the NYT to NPR to ABC news ALL are running breathless stories of how a DEMOCRAT is corrupt. In addition, ALL of these media outlets include in their Jefferson stories that Democrats will not be able to use "culture of corruption" in the upcoming elections against the GOP now that A SINGLE DEMOCRAT has been accused of accepting bribes. That is the crux of the operation. The media has now declared that the corruption is equal in all respects. You can count on Lil Timmy Russert and all of the usual suspects to relentlessly claim that DEMOCRATS are corrupt because of this one pathetic Congressman.

NPR ran a 5 minute long story last night about Jefferson. The story included TWO people commenting that the Democrats would not be able to use "culture of corruption" against Rethugs this year because of this one incident.

Democrats need to be reminded each day that the media is not a fair referee in America. They are, for the most part, propaganda arms of the GOP.

Here is a link to the Kos diary comparing the coverage between Dem and GOP scandals given by the NYT.

5. I know he hasn't been indicted yet but
if he is, and hiding $100,000 in your freezer doesn't make him look too good, the party has to hammer him and hammer him hard. He needs to be kicked out of caucus and they have to hold a primary to replace the POS as soon as possible.

6. There is a profound difference between an occasional
free-lance crooked politician and a whole corrupt system.

12. no doubt, but the timing couldn't be worse for this scandal.
I know they all do it" and "we're not the only ones" excuses don't hold water, but I can't tell you how much it bothers me that the Pubs can even SAY THEM!

I don't want to pick on this guy, but the story of him going to his home in NO in the middle of rescue operations..."to retrieve some personal things" along with keeping $90,000 in your freezer is a bit more that even I can accept.

13. We have no disagreements, but I think the crooks will always
be with us. Sure--hang Jefferson to a lightpost. Fine with me. Same with anyu other sleazeballs on our side.

But we gotta find a way to convey the truth of the situation. The Dems have some bad eggs, but we try to keep them policed up. The Puggies, on the other hand, have systematized and refined bad eggery and made a high art form of it.

2. The Democrats HAVE To Address This. They Have No Excuse For Taking
the daily abuse. Yes, the Mediawhores are biased and have an agenda. But the Democrats need a freaking strategy. Blaming the Mediawhores only works for a short period of time. Either wise up and figure out a way to counter this crap... or get out of the way and let someone else give it a whirl.

7. They are somewhat handicapped in that they can't expect the media
to give any coverage whasoever to their strategic actions.

9. Easy
The Congressional Black Caucus should immediately convince him to "fall on his sword" and Howard Dean and other Democratic leaders should immediately go on every National media outlet with two messages:
1. such behavior IS NOT tolerated in Today's Democratic Party, and ,
2. why is the FBI spending so much time on Jefferson and completely ignoring Ney? If it was worth breaking precedent & raiding Jefferson's office in the Capitol, why is Republican Ney NOT being subjected to such extraordinary measures? It wouldn't be because Jefferson is Black, would it? Or that the FBI has been completely politicised by their Republican taskmasters, would it?

Oh, well, its a nice dream - instead we'll get milquetoast whines from our neutered leaders, exactly what Rove had in mind, and blow YET ANOTHER opportunity in November to take our country back.

Welcome to the Permanent Republican Majority.

10. TV ads denouncing the republican Culture of Corruption should
have been running day and night all over the country for months now.

Why are Democratic party strategists always a day late and a dollar short?

18. Ding Ding Ding......We have a winner.....
....and the proper strategy is to yell sooner AND louder than the Pubbies....."A goddamn crook AND a democrat???We don't put up with that shit!"Throw him out loudly and publicly and take away his pension.....no democrat is to make even the slightest excuse for him and most definitely no one is to blame "politics"....he is a crook and is to be treated as such.....

8. SO. WHEN ARE THE DEMOCRATS in DC...
...going to POINT THIS OUT? WHEN are they going to point out that ONE or two corrupt Democrats DOES NOT COMPARE to the long-term, ongoing, insididious corruption and numerous scandals at all levels in the GOP. WHEN are they going to LIST the NUMEROUS crimes and scandals (Libby, Duke, etc. etc) and parrot THOSE in the face of Americans?

ONCE AGAIN Democrats in this country are WITHOUT A VOICE because our own representatives WILL NOT speak out. THE MEDIA, beholden to corprat interests and the Republican party OWN THE MESSAGE and we in comparison - are invisible.

The phrase "snowball's chance in Hell" comes to mind. That's what we've got if WE CANNOT GET THE MESSAGE OUT THERE BEFORE AND WHILE THE GOP IS DOES IT. Is there ANY DEMOCRAT awake up there?

11. And even if they yell it to the heavens
who will hear them if the media doesn't announce that it's happening.

As for Jefferson, we don't know the whole story. And, I for one, will not condemn a man because of a rumor. He says there are two sides to a story, and I'd like to hear his. Could he have been set up? That's another thing I'd like to know.

16. Point it out how? To whom?
They don't have any media access. Everything on TV, radio, in the newspapers, and in the weeklies is controlled by Repubs.

Or are we just going to remain nationally voiceless while they get their hair done and collect their salaries?

14. For the Dems, paranoia should be....
the normal mental state. Just because you're a paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.

If I was a Dem in D.C. I would assume my phone was tapped and I was on "candid camera" 24/7. There are enough Bushbots in law enforcement to tip the balance of investigation and prosecution toward nailing Dems.

I've always believed Clinton was set up. I assume the Rovians just kept throwing temptation at him until he slipped... then they pounced. I think they sent Monica. (Any of you know a woman who would save a semen stain on a dress?)

20. Along with the RW bleating that the media are ignoring it
an LTE in today's AJC:
http://www.ajc.com/tuesday/content/epaper/editions/tuesday/opinion_442756ac730b006000c6.html

Democrats' cases get less attention

Thanks for putting that story about a congressman caught on video allegedly taking bribes on the front page of the AJC.

No, wait. You did not put it on Page One, you put in on Page A4 ("Lawmaker was taped taking cash, file shows," News, May 22).

Could this decision have any thing to do with the fact that U.S. Rep. William Jefferson of Louisiana is a Democrat?! Call me cynical, but a number of stories alleging far less serious misconduct by Tom DeLay (R-Texas) ran on the front page of the AJC.

One would think a member of the U.S. Congress caught red-handed allegedly accepting bribes would be front-page news --- but I guess that would only apply if he/she were a Republican.

I just love our local whiny-ass titty baby complaining that a Congressman most people have never heard of, didn't merit as much attention as Tom Fucking DeLay...

22. The Dem's need to say something about this.
One bad apple..... and all that. Keeping quite just looks like we condone it. He should step down or be asked to step down for the good of the party and to prove we have more integrity than the Repubs, -even just temporarily, until the investigation concludes.
