Holy crap! Hastert Protests to Bush Over Jefferson Office Raid!
By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 58 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - House Speaker
Dennis Hastert complained directly to President Bush about the FBI's unprecedented raid on Rep. William Jefferson (news, bio, voting record)'s office on Tuesday, while officials said senior Democrats worked to ease the Louisiana lawmaker out of a powerful committee assignment, at least temporarily.

"Obviously we are taking note of Speaker Hastert's statements," said White House press secretary Tony Snow after the Illinois Republican spoke with Bush at the White House.

FBI agents raided Jefferson's office over the weekend, and issued an affidavit saying they had earlier discovered $90,000 in cash wrapped and stashed in the freezer of his home.

1. It seems ALL the Senators/Reps are upset about FBI OVERSTEPPING
I think the Dems played the "Bush is taking over" card... and the Republicans are SCARED.

5. What goes around, comes around
They thought that since they were "in with the IN crowd" that all was well. Now, they're seeing that if the House and Senate flip, they could be in deep shit, and their stuff could be tossed without a by-your-leave. They won't be able to hide crap in their offices and suites.

Oooops...too clever by half! Precedent is being set. Reality really bites...

2. The Criminal's Code of Honor.
Highwaymen, bandits, and robbers always stick together.

Honor among thieves.

Who has the most to lose by office searches? GOP congress critters.

7. Precedent.
Frist was pretty vocal about this too. All the corrupt repugs don't like the idea that their offices can be searched.

12. Hastert's district is trending a little
less red these days and Denny is trying to distance himself a tad from the Chimpy. He has a bright charismatic energetic opponent for a change and I suspect he lives in constant fear he might poll below 65%.

13. Since the FBI had a warrant (and quite a lot of evidence on Jefferson)
Edited on Tue May-23-06 09:29 PM by Charlie Brown
why would anyone oppose his office being searched? Crooks need to be exposed and prosecuted (and Jefferson has been under investigation for a year now).

I think Hastert and the other crooks in Congress are just feeling the heat as the law moves in on their own criminal antics.

And why are they complaining to Bush? He does not (officially) run the FBI. Who is he, their mommy?
