The Honorable Senator Thad Cochran U.S. Federal Courthouse 911 East Jackson Avenue, Ste 249 Oxford, MS 38655
Dear Senator Cochran:
As a constituent I am concerned by the continued delay by the Veteran's Administration to act on the request of Mrs. Roberta Stewart to receive a headstone for her husband, who died during the recent conflict in Iraq. This unfortunate situation seems to be a result of unexplained delays by the Veteran's Administration in approving a proper headstone for the Wiccan religion – something that you maybe able to expedite as the former chairman of the VA Appropriations Sub-Committee, and current chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
This may not seem like a major issue – however, as a Jewish person in a primarily Christian state, I am more aware than most of situations involving questions of religious neutrality and equality. If my mother (USA) or brother (USMC) had needed such a headstone, and I was waiting years after the fact for a Star of David to be approved, I would find the situation to be deplorable.
I hope that you will investigate and help eliminate any roadblocks to laying Mr. Stewart to rest.
Sincerely, Your Constituent
