15. All Pop culture is third rate.
It'a all part of the big dumbing down of the populace, the epitome of which is two terms of the Chimp.

I cannot get excited about Dixie Chicks, Larry King, or anything else spewing from the media conglomerates who decide what is music, what is news, what is entertainment. For Christ sakes, people think that who is (or is not) on "American Idol" is newsworthy.

It's *all* rubbish. All of it.

Cable TV has pseudo-educational networks who seem to focus solely on claptrap. "The Learning Channel" seems to think interior decorating is the only learning people need. Arts and Entertainment thinks that some dirt ball family who makes a living hauling in other dirt balls is art. National Geographic does more crop circles, tattooing, and alien visitation than geography.

They all pander to the Chimp's military machine by featuring such educational features as how all Chimp's big military hardware works. Whenever a new big movie comes out, they pander to that. Ten thousand programs on Da Vinci Code.

Edited on Wed May-31-06 09:04 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
i'll still defend the dixie chicks as having artistic merit. rick rubin wouldn't be producing their cd for one thing, if they were hacks. and neil finn and semisonic are both involved w/ the album.

are they the 2nd coming of johnny cash or the carte family? no.
but they're not as bad as (ugh) american idol. i wouldn't wish that 'music' on my worst enemy

26. Let's start with putting education on the education channels.
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 12:36 AM by longship
The Learning Channel
The History Channel
National Geographic Channel
Discovery Channel

PBS still does some good stuff. NOVA is still high value, but sadly Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers are gone. Frontline still does great stuff, but The Evening Newshour is significantly watered down from the time when it was the MacNeil/Lehrer Report.

Then, there's the so-called news channels. The sole good news program is Keith Olbermann who seems to be the only muckraker left in all of visual media. We can get things moving here by simply turning them off.

Certainly, one learns absolutely zero from watching lame Larry King throw his softballs at the Dixie Chicks.

This is all part of the reason why we have George W. Bush in the White House. Bush is a disease which breeds because of ignorance.

Over 40 years later, Newton Minnow was correct.

23. Sorry, but people that write their own music
and can play instruments are artists and I like their music. You can like music and not be "dumbed down". I'm a little perplexed at the media interest in them though. I thought that culture was more into American Idol as musical expression.

16. Caller said 70/30 of the country agrees with you.
Larry quickly piped up, "I think that's 60/40". One of the Chicks (missed which one)said, "I think it's more like 72.

I see poor old repukelican Larry's face getting tighter and tighter as the show goes on. Love it!!

In case you missed it, Reba said toward the end of the show: "I don't know why I was so nervous about hosting this show this year. If the Dixie Chicks can sing with their foot in their mouths, surely I can host this sucker."
