I make mistakes all the time. BIG ONES. And you all know it.
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 04:42 AM by dicksteele
MISTAKES both minor and major, y'all see them here almost every day.

I read too much, and understand so little, I confuse issues
and post confused responses to them.

My memory in general is not my friend anymore;
even things I used to know well are hazy and vague these days,
and my DU posts show it.

I can't remember NAMES worth a darn, so I sometimes FLAME my
idols and praise my enemies...and I have sent at least one
hateful, blisteringly profane PM to the wrong person...

Even when I am CORRECT, I can't seem to turn off the "sarcasm lock"
on my keyboard...

And have y'all noticed that I DRINK?
I drink A LOT. It's not a good thing.
At least once a month, I have an evening where the "other" Richard
spends a few hours posting under my name:

And the next day, I genuinely need a few hours to work up
the courage to check my posts from the night before...
and when I finally check them, I usually find that my fears were well-founded.

But here's the ODD thing that prompted this post:
My mistakes, many though they be, seem to always get a free pass.

No one has ever PMed their friends to come pile flames upon my poorly-composed threads;
no one has ever cyberstalked me for tidbits to flame me with,
and NOT ONE of you has ever posted a string of quickly-locked threads
for the sole purpose of rubbing my nose in ANY of my nonsense.

So why is that? Why do I get such special preferential treatment here?
Is it because y'all just LOVE me so much that you overlook
all my utterly juvenile bullshit?

No.

It's because I'm a NOBODY, a non-entity who has NEVER
actually done anything which seriously helped DU,
or the Democratic Party, or the world in general,
unlike some DUers we know who do things like that every damn day.

I have never been a "Great Man"...
at least not 'great' enough for certain truly SMALL human
beings to gleefully enjoy my misfortunes.

1. You may not be a great man,
but you're certainly a good man. Now I don't have to post what I was thinking, because it wouldn't have been near as expressive as what you said.

as anything I can muster; but I'm glad I saved you the time!

2. We rarely if ever enjoy the misfortune of others, we are the dems after
all. Perhaps when people get carried away, a little, and we all do it sometimes, but generally, the two main reasons that no-one complains is:
1) Your responses are not as bad as you think; and
2) With the PILES of complete bullshit everywhere, no-one minds if you add a little more. ;)

Anyway, best of luck and top of the morning to you.

You have not seriously helped? Neither have most of us Lounge Lizards, though there are some adventurers to be sure, and even a rover or too, many just are here to socialise a little.

No worries mate; little is enough for almost any of us, even the great movers and shakers and still just like you, never forget it and never forget this: You are ALIVE, so you will always have the chance to be happy.

Cheers,
R_A.

P.S. If you are feeling down, like my sigline says, I'd be glad to try to cheer you up anytime, but remember that there is always someone to talk to, in fact, I would have the local suicide prevention numbers written down somewhere. You never know when you might need them.

I'm not REALLY feeling "down", you know.
Just feeling a bit...dramatic, and trying to use
that feeling to make a point.

a drinking problem.

and that definately sets you a part of from the pack... and earns my respect.

the admitting part - not the drinking part. Now get your ass to recovery, like you're asking us to tell you to do.

5. Exactly my point- my life is not "the pitt's".
I can spend hours here every day playing the fool,
and no one cares very much.
But Lord help a real hero who even has a co-worker
who made a mistake once!

Apparently my tongue is more "in cheek" than I realized-
I really thought the POINT of this post would be readily apparent to all,
but it seems I was MISTAKEN!

Good thing I'm not brave enough to try making a living as a journalist, eh?

I didn't really want to start "calling out" the mods,
I was just curious...the post had seemed pretty inoffensive
when I responded to it earlier; I wondered if he had edited in
something heinous after I went to sleep.

I'm sorry I asked now- my bad.

and it was totally inoffensive. I guess because it was, I became offended when it was deleted. Sorry, if calling out a moderator offended you, but it was simply uncalled for, period. And I didn't intend to be "sexist" either.

Huh boy, I think I will just go to sleep too. :boring: I seem to have stuck my foot into it. Again, sorry, I really didn't mean to trash your post.

.....personally attest to that. Yes, I've ranted on the wrong person, yes I've gotten my "facts" all screwed up, and yes I've had to eat humble pie more than once. Just keep in mind we all make mistakes - it's called "being human" and that with an admission of a wrong and an open ear to the truth we can all make it through this horror we're living through.

I just couldn't resist.

Not to complain, but I prefer to watch flame wars from the sidelines instead of donning asbestos underwear. I don't have time to play catch with hand grenades. I'll post something, wander off for a few hours, and come back to see if there's something else interesting.

We can all be wrong, and it takes a ton of courage to admit it. Few people have that kind of courage.

17. Dump the alcohol and eat more fiber.
Really.

I'm dead serious.

Alcohol sucks. Choose to stay alive. Alcohol provides a false high.

Eat more fiber.

Colon cancer kills and alcohol running through your intestines will help it flourish.

My breakfast every morning: A mix of All Bran, Mini-Wheats, dried cherries, honey, all sprinkled with non-flavored Metamucil and a dose of non-fat milk.

Can you tell I have some endorphins flowing from my 45 minute workout this morning?

Hopefully, I don't get hit by a truck today or my lifestyle changes will all be for nought.
