Staff Sergeant Cardenas J. Alban -- convicted in January 2005 of killing a 16-year-old Iraqi during fighting in Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood -- sentenced to one year, demotion to private, and a bad-conduct discharge.

Staff Sergeant Johnny Horne -- found guilty of unpremeditated murder in the same case as Alban -- sentenced to three years in prison, a reduction to the rank of private, total forfeiture of wages, and a dishonorable discharge.

Specialist Rami Dajani -- convicted in January 2005 of making a false statement following the unpremeditated fatal shooting of a female translator -- sentenced to 18 months of confinement, reduction in rank, and bad conduct discharge.

Specialist Charley Hooser -- made a false statement following the fatal shooting of the same female translator -- sentenced to three years in prison, reduction in rank, and a bad conduct discharge.

3. Hell, I knew a guy who ended up getting 18mos and a BCD for a dirty

buckle.

We were practicing for a parade in our dungarees. We old salts, literally, had our uniforms held together with staples, frayed cuffs, and unshined anything.

This new, kind of gung-ho kid made us look like a pack of tramps. But, after the sergeant barely gave us a glance (cuz he knew better than to cross us), went for the kid. Screamed at him about his dirty brass belt buckle. The kid said something and the sarge told him to meet him behind the hangers later to "settle it, man to man".

We warned the kid but he went anyway. Sarge came out, took his shirt off, and the kid took a swing at him. The two kiss-ass corporals in attendance, arrested the kid.

Me and a driver had to take him to the base brig before they shipped him to Portsmouth. We stopped the jeep on the way, I unloaded the .45 and put it under the seat. We told him hit the fence if we wanted to, and we'd take the heat.

He chose not to, and we delivered him to the tender mercies of the knuckle-dragging prisoner chasers.

That moron, lifer, sergeant had a helluva time getting his totally fucked up pay straightened out after we got done with his records.
