Why Is Glenn Beck Advertising On My Air America Affiliate?
The Los Angeles AA station is KTLK 1150. Today I noticed they've started running ads for Glenn Beck and his show on CNN Headline News. He tries to come across as someone who is pissed off at the status quo, etc.

Isn't he a right wing wacko? I've never heard or seen him, but I recall reading on DU about his leanings, and they're far right if I remember.

Why in the world would they give him the exposure and accept his ads? I realize they have a business to run, but I doubt you'll hear Planned Parenthood advertise on rush limbaugh's show. We need to stop giving credence to A**holes like Beck, not help his viewership numbers.

1. I don't see how advertising on Air America is going to
help Beck. Most everyone who listens to AAR knows the scoop on Beck.

5. Most People Don't Know Crap
Most people are stupid. Perhaps not everyone listening to AA is, but advertising is advertising, and to someone not familiar with Beck, they might give him a listen after hearing the ad.

If you heard it on an AA station, wouldn't you expect he's going to be somewhat comparable to that station's leanings? He's nowhere close to being liberal.

18. But his AAR ad is nonpartisan
and he pretends that he hates all politicians.

People were complaining to Malloy last night, and he said he has zero control as to who advertises during his show.

Using the money from RW'ers to support left radio seems like a fine idea to me :)

6. His ads are on my AAR station too. And I have no problem with it.
If Beck and CNN want to give money to Air America, fine by me.

As for turning down an ad simply because of the nature of its politics, I don't think that's what we do on the left. I'm proud of the fact that we allow a free exchange of ideas, with the stupidest ideas eventually being dismissed. It's the right wing that tries to muzzle the opposition.

11. That's it exactly...
Limbaugh tried to position himself as a "harmless little fuzzball" in the beginning too.

Beck is self deprecating and he plays the "oh-look-at-me-I'm-so-cute-and-silly" schtick. However, bottom line is that he usually toes the BushCo line. I've been very disappointed in the evolution of his radio program. His gleeful banter was a bit more digestible when he wasn't such a right-wing nut.

He's a total Bush shill now.

I will say this...he's entertaining and he's a pretty good comedian. He has hilarious voices that he does, and it's pretty funny. Sometimes, he talks about non-political current events--and he's pretty hilarious when he's being reasonable and pointing out the absurdity or drama in every day life.

It's too bad that he's grown into such a Bush apologist and rationalizer. He does have talent. What a shame it's not being put to better use.

8. A lot of the stations carrying AAR are ClearChannel stations
probably made a bulk buy from ClearChannel. I think CC carries AAR on @50 stations. This has prompted me to write CNN and tell them that Beck stinks. Only heard him a little on the radio and can tell that truth is a wordthat is not in his dictionary.

9. Is your local AAR station owned by Clear Channel?
The reason I ask is because I too have heard these ads on the local progressive talk station, which is owned by Clear Channel, and realized I heard the same ads on a "Classic Rock" station in the area, which is owned by Clear Channel as well. Maybe they tell advertisers if they advertise on one, they advertise on all. I'd listen to some other staions in the QC Radio Grour umbrella, but to be honest, I don't really like them very much. Just Progressive talk and Classic Rock in the local Clear Channel owned grouping of stations. But that is a possible answer.

10. AAR needs money.
CNN's money is just as green as anybody else's.

You gotta understand that AAR has to make a profit if it is to survive. And so far, that survival is in grave doubt!

15. Here Too - I Hope It's A Huge Waste of Money
for CNN -

As a former media buyer, I was semi-shocked to hear the spots - I wouldn't have purchased AAR, but many of the stations do "bundling" when it comes to buying schedules, you get say...all 3 AM's owned by Clear Channel in a market, at a pretty decent price.

"Like- what sort of role model is Britney Spears?!"

Welcome to 1993, when this sort of moronic non-complaint was the height of "un-PC" edginess. Seems frivolous and just plain stupid in the current climate, which is ripe with REAL problems brought on by Beck's little American Fascist movement.
