Dean on GOPs Iraq Resolution Playbook: "The troops deserve more"
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 05:22 PM by bigtree

WASHINGTON, June 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Tomorrow, House Republicans will begin a debate on a resolution concerning the Iraq War. Instead of holding the Bush Administration accountable for their ineptitude and demanding a real strategy for victory in Iraq, Republicans are planning to use the debate as a way to score political points. With GOP Representatives' credibility faltering, new Republican Leader John Boehner is encouraging GOP members of Congress to attack their opponents, according to his secret communications memo.

Boehner's memo says that it's "imperative" that House Republicans erroneously link 9/11 to the war in Iraq. Boehner also urges them to argue that Democrats are "weak," "sheepish," "favor retreat" and "prone to waver." (Center for American Progress, http://www.thinkprogress.org/confidential-boehner-memo )

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on the GOP's divisive playbook:

"Almost five years after 9/11, Osama bin Laden is still at large. At the same time, the President has allowed North Korea to become more dangerous and Iran is threatening to become a nuclear power. And the reality is that our troops and their families still have no strategy from this President to get the job done in Iraq and get them home. Americans simply can't trust Republicans to keep our country safe.

"Instead of engaging in a real debate about the war in Iraq, Republicans would prefer to engage in partisan attacks for political gain. The GOP's strategy of divide and distract won't help Congress with their oversight of the White House's inept Iraq policies, help formulate benchmarks for success or help bring our troops home once their mission is complete -- and the American people know it. The troops deserve more than a partisan political production.

"Democrats believe that 2006 must be a year of significant transition in Iraq. The President owes it to the American people to show real leadership."

1. Why won't anyone stand on the floor of the House and call
them on their "playbook"...

For example...

"Is this what the American people deserve?" Someone needs to stand up and hold a copy of that filth in front of EVERYONE to see. Why isn't anyone willing to do that? What's wrong with exposing (for the 1000th time) their dirty trick "playbook". It's all written in black and white. Use it AGAINST them.

3. Thanks. I knew this. It's not the same as holding up Boehner's memo...
I say USE THE MEMO...use their WORDS against them. Hold UP THE MEMO!

4. Can you acknowledge that we don't control the House agenda (or Senate's)
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 06:26 PM by bigtree
to the extent that we can promote our concerns effectively?

I would ask you to watch for, and highlight here, the efforts of our party in the coming days, weeks, months, that intend to challenge the administration agenda. The challenges do occur, albeit in a non-productive, antagonistic environment, but, they are standing up to the republican majority. Watch for it.

btw, don't forget to lobby Reid and the other leaders about your concerns.

"IF I just be nicer to the nazis they will let me live near this nice warm oven. then the jews said nothing.

9. Yeah, nice of boehner(bone head)
to release a confidential memo so there's no way they can deny what they're scheming..kinda like fat head bush's "devious plans".

At least the senators voted unanimously to cut funding for the war on Iraq and Afghanistan's "emergency funds".

14. Only one correction for Dr. Dean on this
It is not a DEBATE in any way, shape, or form. It is a POLITICAL STUNT designed to get their base rallied behind them. That's all it is.

Dems should walk in with taped mouths and tied hands, just sit quietly during the vote letting photographers pick up what CSPAN cameras will not.
