Hope this isn't a dupe. I haven't seen it posted here.

Alleged victim testifies in sexual assault trial
June 17, 2006
Brittney Booth
Monitor Staff Writer

EDINBURG — A young girl featured in a controversial television ad during the 2000 presidential campaign testified this week that the man who developed the commercial molested her for years and forced her to watch pornography and use sex toys.

The girl, now 15, told jurors Carey Lee Cramer — a 44-year-old political consultant who gained national notoriety when he released an anti-Al Gore ad showing a young girl picking daisy petals and ending in a nuclear blast — began molesting her in the third grade, when she lived in Mercedes with him, his then-wife and her younger brother.

<snip>

She told jurors Cramer began by taking her into his home office and showing her pornography when she was 8. He would touch her sexually, remove her clothing and perform deviant sexual acts on her. The incidents occurred weekly, when the girl was home alone with Cramer.

<snip>

Earlier in the week, another 15-year-old testified that Cramer touched her under her underwear one time when she was visiting the family in Mercedes. Cramer’s alleged victims are relatives.

4. just saw it on bartcop
man what is it w. these pervs, were the wingnuts always this perverted? i have to admit i used to wonder if some of the child molestation reports were invented or exaggerated because how many people could possibly be aroused by a pre-pubescent child, but sometimes it seems like there is an entire arm of the GOP that does nothing else but try to get it on w. the kiddies

is it something in the kool aid they drink

ewwwwww!

8. The answer is.
By it's nature, the far right fundies are going to attract the sexually/mentally unhealthy -- which is going to mean they will have a greater percentage of deviants in the upper levels of power. Is it possible to be raised fundie and not be sexually messed up? Yes, it's possible. Difficult, but possible. IMHO of course.

5. Ad was funded by
"Aretino Industries", a Texas-based so-called non-profit (according to Google). Don't know how they could claim tax-exempt status for this sort of thing. Anybody know who was behind Aretino Industries? Sounds like they were laundering some serious Republican $$$$.

6. I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be easier to compile a list of
prominent GOPers who are not pervs.

9. Not only is he a pervert, he's uncreative
The "Daisy Petals" ad is one of the most famous things Doyle Dane Bernbach ever did.

Or infamous, depending on how much you like Barry Goldwater.

In the original spot, which was aired exactly one time during the "Movie of the Week" on September 7, 1964, a little girl picking daisies transitioned into a nuclear blast.

There was a voiceover from President Johnson:

These are the stakes: To make a world in which all of God's children can live, or to go into the dark. We must either love each other...or we must die.

Then an unidentified male voice ran over a card that read "Vote for President Johnson on November 3rd":

Vote for President Johnson on November 3rd. The stakes are too high to stay home.

http://www.tvacres.com/admascots_daisygirl.htm

Bill Moyers, who later became a television journalist, green-lighted the ad; he also came up with a more suitable slogan for Goldwater. Barry was running on the tagline "In your heart, you know he's right." The improved slogan was "In your guts, you know he's nuts."

On http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2000/cyb20001027_extra.asp you can find a quote from Tony Schwartz, the retired DDB executive who kept Barry Goldwater out of the White House: "This troubles me. They are a bunch of thieves. It is a perversion of my ad." They're thieves in more than just this, Tony.
