I turned a Bush supporter around today (and last week, and the week before
It took longer than just today, I admit, but me and this guy who works in my office have been talking politics for the last three weeks. He was a gung-ho George W. Bush supporter. Needless to say, I brought a lot of facts to his attention after he began spouting right wing talking points. I pointed out to him the things that he and myself, and all Americans, had in common, in terms of our stand on the issues. I pointed out to him that the Bush administration has acted, time and time again, against our best interests, as Americans. I pointed out to him that our government, and our politicians, are owned by the corporations and although the Democrats are "not much better" in some areas, there are a lot of Democrats, like Nancy Pelosi, like John Conyers, like Howard Dean, who are standing up for the values that he and I agree on. All the rest are talking about wedge issues, which are meant to divide us and polarize us along party lines, and distract us from the real issues, the important issues, while the corporate powers steal money out of our pockets.

He told me, finally, today, that he was voting Democratic in the next election.

2. it takes time, but, followers must be given a chanve to change leadership
I changed my parents before the election and it was painful for them. People like the pseudo-patriotism that the GOP engenders, until they have to pay through the nose for gas and perscription drugs.

I went to a church full of little old methodist ladies last week who not only don't like the blowmonkey, but have organized to impeaach him! The national methodist church voted recently 2-to-1 to impleach the chimperor. The minister said at the beginning, before Liz Holtzman spoke, "Impeachment is main stream if it's in the united methodist church." What an undertatement!

Lots of people don't want to lose their rosy image of their country. It's a total downer. but they can't keep the wallpaper stars and stripes going against someone who's informed and unafraid to call a spade a spade.

10. Brilliant!
You must feel great.

I say we start collecting these statements that work, and put them all in one place so we can use them in the upcoming elections.

15. Here's what WORKS on them:
Talk to them about how the Republican's policies cut into THEIR pocketbooks. How the deficit makes THEIR dollars worth less. How this war costs THEM money. How the tax cut for the richest 2% costs them tax dollars on their property, because the states are not getting as much money from the federal government and they have to make it up some way, so they increase property taxes.

I read Michael Moore's "Hey Dud! Where's my Country?" He suggested that we talk to Republicans about their money and how these policies screw them, too. It works, believe me, and we will NOT get these robbers out of our government and out of power until we COME TOGETHER as Americans.
