Anybody Know Any Good News From Iraq?
I have a RW that keeps saying I'm ignoring the good news. But I can't find any. Anybody know where to look? I would like to try and be fair.

2. 50 Americans did not die in Iraq yesterday, so there
Althought I don't know if that would be good or bad news to a "conservative."

Well, if your "RW" knows of the good news, then tell the motherfucker he can share it with you.

Tell him when he enlists and is there you will celebrate the good news for both of you.

12. Casey plans reductions in troop levels.
Based on Murtha Plan. Joins with Out of Iraq Caucus Democrats i9n supporting Murtha. Good news I'd say. Maxine Waters, had this to say:
snip>
"Two weeks ago House Republicans took to the floor and did everything they could to paint Democrats as unpatriotic, against the troops, and as having adopted a craven, “cut and run” posture on the war in Iraq.

Now we find out not only has the Bush administration already started to draw down troops in Iraq, but they have a plan on the table that is virtually identical to H.J. Res. 73, the Murtha “Over the Horizon” plan-the proposal endorsed by the 72 member “Out of Iraq” Caucus, which I Chair. The plan reportedly being pushed by Gen. Casey is looking to significantly reduce the number of troops in Iraq right before the November elections. Gen. Casey is adamant about allowing military leaders on the ground to determine when to further redeploy U.S. troops. He would keep a rapid-response strike force in the region to quell any flare ups that might threaten our allies or the national security of the U.S. Finally, the plan insists on pursuing diplomatic talks with the new Iraqi government and governments in the region to develop “a practical plan of security implementation.” The Casey plan is virtually identical to Mr. Murtha’s Over the Horizon resolution.

For more than a year, the Out of Iraq Caucus has been advocating the position that the Bush Administration now appears to be embracing with open arms, and we welcome their support."

14. Why do you hate America so?
Of course there was good news. Just two weeks ago, our dear Leader dropped in unannounced for a bite and a chat. If we hadn't done so well in Iraq, do you think he could have done that? NO!
Just two weeks ago, we killed T H E N U M B E R 2 M A N in Al Qaida. Just as soon as we let the other terra-ists know, they will sue to make peace. But, we have a plan for that, too. Just as they try to sue for peace, we HIDE ALL THE LAWYERS!

Hahaha ahah ahahaha. Hohohohohohoho!
hahah. Aaaaaaah.

That was a good one, we hide all the law - - - - hey, you aren't laughing. Come on, lighten up! Our Leader was making jokes about Iraq last night. Why can't you see that good side, too?

Civil War Violence Leaves 60 Dead over 100 Wounded
130,000 Displaced in Past 4 Months

Bombings and other civil war violence took the lives of at least 60 Iraqis on Monday. In addition, guerrillas kidnapped 10 Sunni students who were attending a technical institute in Shiite East Baghdad.

In the worst incident, guerrillas detonated a bomb in a crowded market in the Shiite city of Hilla south of Baghdad, killing 30 and wounding 56.

In the village of Khairnabat near Baquba, a troubled city northeast of the capital, a motorcycle bomb in a crowded market killed at least 18 and wounded 30.

Guerrillas used a car bomb in the Amiriyah district of Baghdad to kill 5 Iraqi soldiers.

In Saydiyah, southern Baghdad guerrillas detonated a bomb at a checkpoint, killing 3 police commandos.

<snip>

School enrollment is up over-all in Iraq. This phenomenon is largely a result of the removal of the United States/ United Nations sanctions, which had devastated the Iraqi middle classes, and had actually cause the literacy rate to fall substantially in the 1990s. Tavernise notes, however, that school enrollment has actually fallen in Baghdad, which is about a fourth of the country.

22. Wounded guardsmen are coming back from Iraq and living high off the hog
from all the military pay and benefits they got while serving in Iraq. According to feepers and bushbots. The ones that are having troubles are the ones who got hooked on drugs while serving in Iraq. I'm waiting to hear how insurgents and terrorists are putting chemicals in the drugs to make american soldiers pacifists.

29. The reason is up is because the sanctions we had on the
middleclass kept it down - before we invaded. I'm not sure that is a very good example of good news.

Oil production is up though.

33. So neutral news would be having school
attendance continue to suck? Or would that be good news?

Enrollment's up; as far as schooling is concerned, the current chaos is less of a hindrance than sanctions. True for few enough things.

The sanctions were bad, and worked out worse than intended by the West; they played their role in Iraqi internal politics handsomely. But they also worked from the West's perspective; remember, 'containment' and all that, how wonderful the MSM said it was? No sanctions, no containment.

On the other hand, things were going downhill in education before '91.

30. Some Sunni Insurgent groups are thinking about negotiating
so sayeth the NYT today.

that's good. if the Sunnis stop their insurgency, that would leave only the shiite militias, ethnic cleansing, morals police, & al queda in iraq to deal with. all of which didn't exist before we invaded.

This guy is very caustic and sarcastic - you may have just the right approach there.

He says that I am just panicking over a temporary situation - that good things are happening and in time things will work out.

Funny because I am not really known for my "panicking."

34. The Good News: the Iraqi Resistance has fought the world's
most powerful military to a tactical stalemate (thus, a strategic defeat for the U.S.)

The Bad News: 35% of the U.S. still believes we can "win" in Iraq.
