Two teenage girls use MySpace to rob man
More bad publicity for MySpace.com. But this time, the tables have turned. Two teen girls (14 and 15) used the popular website to lure a man and then robbed him...

-----
Teenage Girls Rob Man they Met on MySpace
LAST UPDATE: 6/27/2006 3:07:32 PM

A Jacksonville man says he was duped and robbed by two girls after attempting to meet with a woman he met on the internet.

The victim says he chatted online with a woman, known on her MySpace.com profile as “Natalia”, for two weeks before deciding to meet with her. He says her profile showed sexy photos, and a blurb which said “just lookin’ for something fun”. That brief, friendly description was all he knew about her before they planned to meet.

"She sent me a message saying she thought she met me somewhere," says the victim. They decided to meet at what she called her home at the Bentley Green Apartments. “I went to and knocked on the door, and there was no answer. So I called her and said, ‘I'm here’ and there was no answer."

That is when two girls who were 14 and 15-years-old, approached him saying they knew Natalia, the girl he thought he'd be meeting. They also said they knew where he worked at and what car he drove. "This was not the girl that the picture was of on MySpace," the victim said.
Now sensing something was wrong, he was ready to take off, but was stopped by a shocking discovery. "One of the girls took a gun out and put it to my head and told me to empty my pockets."

(snip)

Police did a search of the area and found the two teens with another male. They searched a purse and found two loaded handguns.

(snip)

Those teenagers are now charged with armed robbery and carrying a concealed firearm.

1. Can't help myself. I find this ironically amusing.
Men have been using the internet from day 1 to entice teen girls. I feel sorry for the guy, but he did put himself into a position to be attacked.

6. Yes. . . should have met "Natalia" in a coffee shop. . .
then when he was satisfied she was who she said she was, he could have rendezvoused at his place or a hotel. But, he seems to be a dimwit so I guess he should be happy to be alive.

Perfect irony would be if he was arrested for soliciting minors.

17. Yeah, the two girls created a fake profile of an 18 year old
They created a fake identity and filled the page with "sexy" photos in order to attract men. They set up a meeting place with the guy, approach him, pull out the gun and rob him. I wonder how many times they pulled that off.

4. I've seen people put their salary on MySpace
I always thought it was the height of douchebaggery.

Sounds like a desperate guy and a couple of low-end criminals. I mean really. If you're gonna use the Internet to scam people, you can do a whole lot better than a petty street robbery. Why use the Internet at all if you're gonna strong-arm rob some guy and you already have the guns?

Weird.

5. Wonder how many they robbed before some one reported it
A situation like that is not likely to be reported

7. Its a good thing this guy reported it
If these girls were cooking up schemes like this at age 14...imagine what they will be cooking up at age 25.

11. With 90 million members...
When you have 90 million members and absolutely no control over who signs up and no ability to track those that sign up...you are going to have some bad people on there. And as you can see, not all the bad people are dirty old pedophile.

Anyone can be a victim. Anyone can be a perpetrator.

13. A similar percentage of kids would get in trouble without myspace
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 06:41 PM by conflictgirl
If out of 90 million members on myspace, if less than 10 teenagers get into trouble, that's an EXTREMELY low incidence. You could use any other group of 90 million people and find 5-10 teens that have gotten in at least as much trouble. Kids who go to band camp? Kids who have parents who are accountants? If you find 5 kids throughout the country who are victims or perpetrators of crimes and all of them have parents who are accountants, are you going to forbid your kids from hanging out with others who have accountant parents?

I would say that myspace is no worse than hanging out at the mall as far as potential for kids getting into trouble. The whole recent phenomenon of "myspace crime" is a media overinflation. I think kids are at as much risk from myspace as they are from internet access, period, having jobs after school, going to the mall with a group of friends, or going away to camp. I can't keep my kids away from everything that might be a potential risk situation, so instead I need to teach them how to keep themselves safe and supervise them as much as possible.

And yes, I do have kids. The oldest is still a bit young for myspace but I would probably let him use it when he gets to that age, but I would supervise and put limits about him meeting people offline that he had initially met through the site.

15. And I'm sure he thinks he has no personal responsibility

in this. And unfortunately many will agree that he has no responsibility for putting himself in such a position.

18. Why does MySpace even let you put in your salary info?
That is just asking for all sorts of trouble...
