Gov. Rod Blagojevich's drug deal

Drugs contract goes to Calif. company

A $100 million state contract to oversee the state's prescription drug program for poor seniors was awarded to a California company where the sister of Gov. Rod Blagojevich's campaign manager is an executive.

The Daily Herald reports that Lon Monk was Blagojevich's chief of staff when the deal with Pacifi Care was announced last fall and his sister Nancy Monk is a vice president for government relations there.

Lon Monk said he was not involved in his sister's company getting the contract and was not aware of it until after the contract was awarded.

The newspaper said the Blagojevich administration has refused to turn over the contract.

On Thursday, Republican lieutenant governor candidate Joe Birkett said the administration should detail the contract and any role Lon Monk might have had.

A spokeswoman for the governor and Nancy Monk did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday from The Associated Press.
