Apparently Donald Rumsfeld is a big fan of "metrics;" that is, the notion that all problems can be reduced to a set of numbers from which an optimal solution can be derived. His stated strategy for timing the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq is that Americans will withdraw when enough Iraqi troops have been trained and equipped. So what's the magic number? How many is enough? How many are currently ready to go? How close (or not close) are we? What's the fucking percentage, Donald? Has any member of the media ever dared to ask his Rummyship? I know, I know--the real answer is that they have no intention of leaving, ever. Or at least not until we've pumped Iraq's massive oil reserves dry. But wouldn't it make sense to ASK, for chrissakes?
