Should Michael Moore offer condolences to family of Sgt. Plouhar?
I am a big Michael Moore fan. I've seen "Roger and Me", "Bowling for Columbine" and actually went to the theater to watch "Fahrenheit 9/11".

More wasn't using the Marine recruiters to condemn the war as much as showing that the poor and disadvantaged are who get recruited for our military these days. These Sargent's were doing their duty as it was taught to them. I don't think they were bad guys. A government that is imperialistic and unjust is the guilty party. Moore has expressed a lot of support for the troops.

So I am perplexed as to why Moore has not released a statement expressing sorrow for this man's death in combat. What do you think?

1. Who knows what he has done?
He may have written to the family, sent the unused portions of the tape to them, who knows?

Just because there's no public announcement (which would make it all about HIM, and not the poor kid or his family) means nothing.

2. He may have already privately offered condolences - which is the
way it should be.

I would see it as very poor judgment if Moore was to publicly make some kind of statement. This would seem to be pandering as well as an attempt to use a tragedy for ones own personal agenda.

You want censorship?

Added:
Besides, Moore has never said that he was a Democrat. He used to be a Green or Naderite.

8. I Don't think it's about censorship
It's more about concentrating on getting the primary mission accomplished, and then coming back and ironing out the differences.

Besides, even if Moore didn't do or say anything, it's not our place to judge, is it?

15. Republicans taste better, but they're fatty and loaded with Mecurry
Democrats, on the other hand, are gamey and it's messy to clean them off the tires after you throw them under the bus.

But I bet Lieberman would go down easy with some chicken schmaltz and an eggcream.

5. Have you released a statement expressing sorrow for this man's death?
I think Michael Moore will do as he sees fit. This may be a private condolence to the family, may include his sorrow for this 1 person's death along with all the others that have happened. I have faith in Mr. Moore to do what is right as he has continued to work towards ending this occupation.

11. I am not a public figure.
This Marine will always be remembered for his role in Moore's film. He helped make Fahrenheit successful. Moore should be grateful. And Michael should say it publicly!

Yes, a person in one of his films is one of the dead. I don't think this one person particularily needs to be singled out as being sadder about or more grateful for. I do not know what Mr.Moore has done regarding this 1/2534th dead USA soldiers in particular, but am grateful for his continuing to speak out against the occupation.

Perhaps it would be more time worthy to write Mr.Moore directly rather than posting here. Here is his email address, to make it easy for you. mike@michaelmoore.com

Edited to add, you could be a public figure if you spoke out enough. And should only public figures express sorrow at these deaths?

16. People listen to public figures.
They don't listen to me.

And Moore has been attacked by the right (nothing new to him) for not saying anything publicly. He certainly doesn't need to apologize, but a statement of sorrow without making it sound like propaganda might gain him more supporters.

You realize that the right doesn't need any reasons to attack anyone and so?

14. Why does it have to be "publicly?" Is it about you and the public?
Or MM and the soldiers family? Maybe the family doesn't want the attention. You don't know anything about it, so let MM and the family handle it how ever they want.

7. I think Michael Moore should offer condolences to Hiroshima & Nagusaki
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 04:06 PM by devilgrrl
Then he should offer condolences to the victims of Katrina and the Titanic disaster and the nation for the last 6 years.... because he's fat

10. It has nothing more to do with M.M. than it does the rest of us
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 04:14 PM by kenny blankenship
Why would he be involved or implicated to any greater degree necessitating some special statement from him about the regrettable loss of the Marine Sgt.?

He made the movie calling attention to the illegality of the war and the illegitimacy and incompetence of the unelected dictator who launched it, that's statement enough (a lot more than I've accomplished anyway).

17. Why should he?
He din't send the man to his death for an aggressive, pre-emptive war of choice.

Besides, whose to know what he has done privately?
