Colin Powell Says Iraq Is In A "Civil War". There Are Those Words Again!

Colin Powell On Iraq: “We're Not Going To Leave Behind Anything We Like Because We Are In The Middle Of A Civil War”…

Aspen has got a hold of my brain! First it was the Fortune Brainstorm, then I was back in town taking part in the Aspen Ideas Festival, which just ended. My mind runneth over. Here are some takeaways from my time there:

In between panels, I ran into Colin Powell and asked him if we are ever going to get out of Iraq. "We are," he told me, "but we're not going to leave behind anything we like because we are in the middle of a civil war." Powell and Jack Murtha both talking about civil war in Iraq -- shouldn't that be headline news?

I THINK IT SHOULD!

Shit or get off the pot Colin. Come out once and for all against this criminal cabal and tell us everything you know. You were instrumental in creating the mess. You should be out trying to clean it up. Innocent blood is on your hands. There is only one way to remotely wipe it clean. Do the right thing!

3. Had Me Fooled For A While Too.
For a while I thought bringing him onboard was the only decent move this administration had ever made. then I realized they only wanted his name and reputation to back their neocon freakfest. Once that was spent, he was shown the door. Yet, he still does not come out and tell us what he knows. Pissed me off to no end. He is in a unique position. Wilkerson has filled us in. Where is Colin?

6. Same here... I had read
his autobiography in the mid 90s and had hoped that he would be able to bring the two parties together if he ran for president. And here he has an opportunity to make amends and he just keeps tossing bones around, taunting us with what he knows.

I say we ignore him and let history describe his treason against the country he vowed to protect. Not holding out any hope he will do the right thing. It would require him thinking on his own. I think he bought into the follow-the-leader mentality of the military too well.

7. amen
that's all they do.

and If I saw Colin (and how could you not OP) I would've said, "It's an honest question since we've spent hundreds of billions on this and lost so much life - WHY DON'T YOU DO MORE TO END IT WHEN YOU CAN IGNITE MAJOR PUBLIC DEBATE?"

I dunno, that's just me I guess...

5. MTP quoted Bill Kristol, "that things were not going
well in Iraq." It's shaping up to be a weird Sunday morning.

9. "We're Not Going To Leave Behind Anything We Like..."
True statement, but not because we are in the middle of a civil war.

Anything we impose on the Iraqis, like our puppet government, will be shed like a coat of wasps, because they hate our guts.

The Iraqis will not accept a US-imposed government.

Our invasion was unjustified and we are seen as conquerors, not liberators.
