WTF is the EPW Senate Committee and why doesn't the media cover them?
Except NRO and NewsBusters?

This "US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works" goes after Al Gore and now Tom Brokaw in the most outrageous ways, and the mainstream media doesn't offer up hardly a peep.

Oh wait, there was a peep:

GOP Majority Of Environment and Public Works Preemptively Attacks Brokaw Documentary
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2006/07/13/publiceye/entry1799623.shtml

The rest of it was by rightwing garbage planters like NRO and NewsBusters (I ain't linking them) and a few responses to them from leftwing defenders like Think Progress.

My question is two part:

1. Who is this Senate Committee?
2. And why doesn't the media get interested in what a tax-payer funded committee is doing?

CNN/NBC/AP/et al should be all over this, and I really wish they were since it's so bloody outrageous.

2. Guess who the media director of EPW is
None other than CNSNews' Marc Morano.

After five years at CNSNews.com, he had moved over to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works to be the Communications Director.

CNSNews.com is a division of the Media Research Center which, at the top of it's front page, declares it is "The leader in Documenting, Exposing and Neutralizing Liberal Media Bias."

To put Morano in context, it helps to know that he was the producer of Rush Limbaugh's short lived television show known as Rush Limbaugh's man in Washington.

This is the kind of stuff which is happening all over the US government.

3. We have a media as incurious as our president.
They are spoonfed, why should they bite the hand that feeds them?

5. Thankyou all for the responses. I still don't understand
what they are and how they can get away with putting out this tripe.

Does Barbara Boxer not have a say? Is it controlled by the majority?

Is it just this Morano guy drawing up these releases, or does he get directed to do so?

6. This is just one example of how the government usually works these days
This committee is headed by a Senator (Imhofe) who is a fanatic hater of environmental causes and is in bed with BigOil. As usual, the committee is made up of more GOPers than Dems. Imhofe authorizes the release of Morano's hit pieces while the minority party will issue statements that the hit pieces are not the opinion of the entire committee.

The GOP viewpoint of course gets media play while the Dem viewpoint gets none.
