What's your favorite example of Bush et al bending or breaking the law?
A commentor on my blog asked today for examples of laws the Bush admininstration has broken or ignored. I'm sending him information on the brazillion signing statements, and why the Iraq war is breaking international law, but I just wondered if anyone has anything else they would like me to add? Links if possible. Thanks!:)

1. Violating the Fourth Amendment
to the U.S. Constitution for starters, as well as his Oath of Office to protect and defend the Constitution.

5. "Hamdan v. Rumsfeld" is a good example...
By that I mean one succinct example where Bush broke the law and the Supreme Court said he did. You can't get any more clear than that...

Hamdan v. Rumsfeld et al (see particularly no. 4 under "Syllabus")

The question now is..."Now what?" I believe it's up to the US Congress to follow up, but so far I don't see any movement toward that goal...

The 750 laws that B*sh maintains (in his "signing statements") don't apply to him.. for starters.

The fact that he seems to think that the authority he was given to use force in Iraq is an excuse to do ANY DAMN THING HE PLEASES!! And he pleases to spy on Americans, and their personal papers and communications. And he pleases to decide who is or is NOT an "enemy combatant" subject to secret seizure, held indefinitely without charges or access to counsel.. And he pleases to render anyone anywhere to subject them to torture..

And he sends his damn toady Gonzales to try and justify all of this as necessary on his so called "war on terror".. (the stupidest phrase ever uttered by anyone who claims to have an
education)

(on edit: pardon my rant.. but he just drives me nutz! Welcome to DU :hi: )

4. The war is the headliner of the list, but certainly there are others:
Subverting the Constitutional separation of powers--an exemplary violation of the Presidential oath of office--by intentionally violating the FISA Act. The latter is a deliberate violation of a law put in place through a process of SCOTUS decisions, Congressional legislation, and Presidential signature, thus it involves the Executive in conspiracy not only to break laws but subvert the powers of the coequal branches and shred the Constitution. An immediate impeachment process should result from evidence that the President has violated the FISA statute. In this case the offense has been compounded by a Presidential directive, reported by no less than Bush's own Atty General, to obstruct justice in the investigations of the alleged FISA violations.

6. Bush v Gore
read it again, it's a defense of Bush's basic philiosophy. Allowing the recount would do him
irrepable harm, his argument not mine. Right there he states vote counting is not good for
Team Bush, that's where it all started back then, we left the Constitution and the US has
been off track since then.

She's the sexiest woman in global politics.

I'm sure you know this, but in speaking with Germans and listening to
her on audio, she's a plain speaking, balanced person. To lead a grand
coalition that the men can't negotiate, she's been artful.

Like her photo here, a woman who has risen to the top in a very patriarchal
culture, a woman of connsummate immpeccability. Oh, i'm in love... :loveya:
