What are the best, most objective online news sources?
I have the regular news sources bookmarked (CNN, BBC, NYT, etc) but I am looking for other sites where I can find the latest news from objective sources, or at least from other perspectives than the ones we're fed day after day. That would include the best sites from abroad. Please bear in mind that I speak only English (used to speak some German when I was a child, but have forgotten almost all of it).

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

11. some specialized sites:
you can find "general news" in countless places (every newspaper has a website), but I also check:

editorandpublisher.com and insidehighered.com

every day. One is for news about the news industry; the other for news about higher education. I track both for my weekly newspaper column. Other than that, I read what you've been reading: WashPo, NYT, numerous blogs, Drudge, DU (not much political news escapes notice here), CNN and so on.

5. It's very hard to find truly "objective" news sources
I would just read a wide variety and form your own opinions

The Guardian is excellent: http://www.guardian.co.uk, with extensive reporting. A clear leftist stance but excellent reporting nonetheless and generally rated one of the best global papers.

For news on the Middle East, you should probably consult the following:

Haaretz - http://www.haaretz.com - a left-wing Israeli paper, very extensively read; excellent op-ed pages, again with a very clear LW slant.

Jerusalem Post - http://www.jpost.com - Right-wing Israeli paper but deserves to be read as its one of the most widely-read papers in Israel.

Al-Jazeera - http://english.aljazeera.net - News from a the popular Arab perspective.

Daily Star - http://www.dailystar.com.lb - English language Lebanese paper.

Al-Ahram - http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/index.htm - English-language Egyptian weekly.

8. Der Spiegel, English site
http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/

I am bilingual English/German so I often read the German papers online. There are also some really good online radio stations from Germany.

Don't know about "objective"; what I try to do is sample various internation sites for information. Another on of my favorites is Asia Times Online, out of Hong Kong:

9. I like buzzflash.com and whatreallyhappened.com.
Both have news from a lot of other sources. Sometimes there's commentary.

10. What is "objective" is subjective.
I look for variety. Asia Times is good for opinions about what is going on, BTW. You can find good stuff in out of the way places.

12. I like Guardian Online...It has a left bent in its editorials
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 09:34 PM by joemurphy
but its news articles are usually unbiased, well-written and incisive. I think its coverage of American news is better than any American news source I have seen. I also enjoy its European perspective.
