Rice: A cease-fire would be a false promise

A cease-fire would be a false promise if it simply returns us to the status quo, allowing terrorists to launch attacks at the time and terms of their choosing and to threat innocent people, Arab and Israeli, throughout the region. That would be a guarantee of future violence.

Instead, we must be more effective and more ambitious than that. We must work urgently to create the conditions for stability and lasting peace.

Excuse me: WTF? Is it too much to ask that the carnage, the killing of innocent people, stop while they work out this yet-revealed strategy?

1. Where are the dems? Why are they not condemning Bush and Rice loudly!
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 05:44 PM by Mass
It is not about condemning one side or the other. It is about calling for a ceasefire and against Bush's failed foreign policy.

4. After the press statement, Condi was asked by an anonymous reporter
...to clarify if she planned to ask for a ceasefire and Condi repeated the statement by saying, "...it makes no sense to have a cease fire when it <meaning the fighting> will just start up again."

I heard her say that in a short sound clip on the NPR news-break over our local public radio station (UCF- 89.9FM) in Orlando FL at 4:00PM EDT today. I have not been able to get a repeat transcript, video or audio stream of that statement, but I did hear her specifically say it. I checked the NPR web-site when I got home and the only video is of Condi's press statement which was actually made earlier in the day that you have quoted above.

These bastards want an expanded war and all the carnage that will come with it!

5. "That would lull them into a false sense of security!"
"But it's not false -- they really would be more secure!"

"You mean it would lull them into a real sense of security?"

or something like that ... from an episode of "Yes Prime Minister", where it was a ***HUMOROUS PARODY***. When Bu**sh**Co does it, it is NO LONGER FUNNY!
