Fox News suggestion: Create Muslim-only line at airports...
The re-normalization of American bigotry continues...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eat-the-press/2006/08/16/fox-news-airs-suggestion-_e_27366.html

"Gallagher responded that Gross's statements were "absolutely absurd" and claimed that the Traffic Safety Administration is aggressively targeting uniformed members of the military. "Let's have a Muslim-only line," Gallagher said, as Gross started to talk.

Jerrick asked Gallagher to repeat what he said.

"It's time to have a Muslims check-point line in America's airports and have Muslims be scrutinized. You better believe it, it's time," Gallagher said, garnering tepid audience applause."

14. I'd create a separate line for Tim McVeigh types....
You know, uneducated, pasty white republicans. Make them stand in a separate line and go through a very, VERY thorough search. After all, The republican, Tim McVeigh, is the first terrorist/killer we had. Oh yea. And until these republican's pass inspection they must wear a yellow star on the clothing.

28. Sssshhhhh! We hate towelheads this year, not militant rednecks.
I don't endorse either slur, but you get my point.

We don't want to hear about extremist AMERICANS who blow shit up...we're supposed to be afraid of the "Islamofacists".

I've said it before. I'll say it again. TSA "security" procedures have almost nothing to do with security. They have everything to do with being able to say "See? We're doing something".

59. Well there are Islamofascists to be afraid of, but your point well taken
We don't want Musslims forced to wear silver crescents, etc.

But short of a Musslim line at airports, there COULD be a bit more intelligent filtering of who to scrutinize.

53. You say - "See, this is what is going to really set people off..."
I say - Maybe that's the point?
Maybe that's the whole idea? Maybe that's what this stupid notion is designed to do? Maybe that's what they are trying to accomplish? Setting people off?

Look, it's Fox. The fascists at Fox clearly want to set people off. That's what they do. The worse the better. That's their role in the fear and consumption cycle that is called "The American Dream." If we were all smart and centered and well educated and pretty, their advertising revenue would dry up. They need to constantly remind us that we are stupid and immoral and the terrorists are gonna blow us up. That way so many of us anesthetize ourselves with the crap that their sponsors are selling. Setting groups of Americans off against each other like this is Manipulation 101 and the sad part is how many people fall for it...

3. I favor the Astrological Profile Index, in which people are lined up
by the dominant traits of their birth signs.

Screening would be correspondingly more rigorous for mercurial or aggressive signs, for example.

That, combined with the carry-on ban of toothpaste, would guarantee 100% safety for all.

18. Crescent Moon Badges?
This is scary talk.

How far are we away from requiring that all Muslims in this country have red crescent moon badges sewn to their clothing?

On local conservative talk radio in Denver, this kind of racist, bigoted rhetoric is quite prevalent. Indeed, the words of hate towards Muslims seems to be almost as bad as it was just after 9/11.

I have no doubt this is part of the Rovian strategy to scare and polarize the electorate before the November elections. But we had all better be very aware of the danger of this kind of stuff ... because it can get out of hand and before you know it our Muslim brothers and sisters will be rounded-up and put in camps.

Remember --- that has happened in this country before to a whole class of people.

Now they are broadcasting such insanity openly, and calling it good and right!:banghead:

Now given that Islam is a large, and diverse religion, how are you going to be able to tell the Muslims from the Christians or Jews. Let me guess, they'll go back to that old school playbook, and start requiring that all Muslims sew red cresents onto the breast of their clothing:banghead:

This isn't the country that I was raised in. It has devolved into an increasingly fascits state. I would leave, but I am attached to my farm, my land, my family and friends. And besides, I'm a stubborn son of a bitch, and I won't be run off without a fight to bring that old America that I loved back.

The thing I find troubling about this whole thing is the report now that these folks hadn't bought tickets, didn't have passports, and nowhere near ready to do anything but chat on line. In other words, the timing is highly suspect, and both Bush and Blair are hoping that no one is still paying attention when the time comes to prosecute these guys and they are let go instead for lack of evidence.

that his country has welcomed thousands of Muslims who are not a threat .... thousands of Muslims who have lived here for decades.

We are a country full of stupid people and agenda driven people who employ bigots such as this person and give others just like this one a voice on all the airwaves and cables.

Think Irish. Think Native American. Think Black-American. We treat some Americans and guests like crap.

Who is the 'we' who do this? Some of us are people who call ourselves defenders of our Constitution and Bill of Rights (some like the flag better). Some are defenders of the Bible (some prefer their interpretations over others).

Situation: A citizen of 30 years who is a Muslim is married to a citizen who has Arab descent, but is a Christian, and who has lived here for 4 generations. Do they both deserve to stand in the Muslim line?

This guy is suggesting that 'Americans' should not suffer from the war on terror.

So when are we going to wake up to the fact that we generate the war of terror on us? Rather, our present leaders and their followers generate the war of terror on all of us.

Edited to change 'holds thousands' to 'has welcomed' thousands of Muslims.

"fact that we generate the war of terror on us? Rather, our present leaders" the WE here is correct. If you and I stand by and let this happen, like the people did in Germany in the 30's, then we are as guilty as the criminals in this administration.

I would think they spend their days cowering in the closet eating cold beans in fear.

It never occurs to these racists that it would be just as easy to pay a 25 year old white crackhead to unwittingly deliver a bomb via the subway thinking it's a drug deal.

How about paying a homeless person to take a package aboard a bus that explodes by remote control?

They always demand we stop suspecting young white people and grandmothers.
While these Fox Newsies keep their eyes on every "darkie" in town, the terrorists will devise new ways to prevail.

What dumbasses.

Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 05:14 PM by Canuckistanian
He once did a show from Iowa City that was considering letting a Muslim group start a youth summer camp.

http://www.pluralism.org/news/index.php?xref=Debate+over+Muslim+Youth+Camp+in+Iowa&sort=DESC

He continued to insist that they were really trying to start an al-Qaeda training camp and held rallies against the camp.

Gallagher has never been known for level headed thinking.

56. Shades of the six-pointed yellow star... Only this time, if WE allow it,
I guess it will be a yellow crescent.

The Nazi spirit is alive and well, to the detriment of us all.

Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Kommunist.

Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.

Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten,
habe ich nicht protestiert;
ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.

Als sie die Juden holten,
habe ich nicht protestiert;
ich war ja kein Jude.

Als sie mich holten,
gab es keinen mehr, der protestieren konnte
Pastor Martin Niemöller

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

I'm beginning to think that voting them out isn't enough.
Perhaps we should place them in the FEMA camps they've so thoughtfully prepared.

Why not attempt to figure out exactly what the "Islamo-fascists" want? Before we start arguing the morality of this, shouldn't we realize that the time for these idiotic preventative measures has come and gone.

Just so we can see when the idiots are going to be on our flight so that we can try and reschedule our flights accordingly

Besides it could be argued that they pose a danger to people's mental health and well-being

66. That will speed things up for us whities
What if we told abortion clinics to be on the lookout for people who look Christian. Would that help at all?

If they can't find explosives on your carry-on, how in the world are they going to determine everybody's religion before they get on the plane? Muslims can be white (John Walker Lindh), black (Zacarias Moussaoui); Arabic (Bin Laden); Oriental (Thailand bombers); or just about anybody who adopts that religion.

As most people with a couple of brain cells will point out, Islam is a global religion. It would be very inefficient to profile such a large group. And how would you know? If you ask a terrorist what his religion is, he will probably lie.

68. The really sad part is that I told some friends/family about that concept
Thinking they would be just as outraged and disgusted at the idea as I was, but all but 1 agreed with the idea!! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Not only is the idea racist, but it is very impractical and would not do much to protect airlines. The next terrorist could have blonde hair and blue eyes. Then what?

Bush, the right wing, and Fox News have done a terrific job at demonizing Muslims and confusing people about what the real issues are.

71. and did you hear about that poll last week
where they found that a large number of respondents thought that Muslims should carry a special ID card, and that they wouldn't want to have a Muslim as a neighbor. Funny thing, though, those are the respondents who DIDN'T KNOW a Muslim!

I live in a Congressional District where the Dems have endorsed a Muslim, and I hear this kind of crap from the few R's that live here. If you live in Minnesota, CD 5, vote for Keith Ellison in the primary!

72. Even ignoring the racism, it's a stupid idea
Assume security starts profiling and cracking down hard on every person they deem to be of Arab appearance. What would any smart terrorist organization do? Use people who do not appear to be Arabs. There are between between 900 million and 1.5 billion Muslims all around the world, and even some homegrown, white, all American, John Walker Lindh types without Muslim backgrounds, who would not trigger profile screens. Profiling is a dumb idea because it is ineffective and counterproductive as a means of pursuing security. Terrorist raining and recruiting will simply change to avoid the profiles, and security is right back to where we are now, random checks.

74. Not that bad an idea
I lived in the Middle East for a number of years and I don't happen to disagree as strongly with this idea - except I would make it Muslim males aged 17-40 rather than all Muslims.

In case anyone hadn't noticed that happens to be the right cohort (as in population group) to consider for extra screening.

The current travesty of searching 80 (and 8) year olds while letting is far too ludicrous. I don't see why everyone has to be screened when not everyone is a real threat.

75. I agree with Fox
I can't believe the shock from some of you. If you have an Israel stamp in your passport and try to get into a Muslim country, they put you in a different line...the line leading back onto the plane because they won't even let you into the country. In Iran, Christians and Jews have to wear badges. They're not doing it for national security reasons, they just like to hastle non-muslims. But according to you guys, America is the bigot?!? whatever

80. Idiotic, how will they prove someone even is Muslim?
Their thinking is so shallow, they would miss the converts and the lighter skinned Muslims or the Muslims who just say they are something else in order to avoid the line.

The racism of these people is incredible. I hope some of them are stopped as "Muslims." They probably think they could never be mistaken for one.

84. ...And someday, the line will lead to the Muslim-only "showers".
What dicks. I am increasingly reminded of a post-WWII propaganda film I've seen recently, which concluded by saying something to the effect of, "remember that whenever you hear some asshole ranting about someone else's race or religion, it's because they have something to gain from it at your expense."

Words to live by.

85. What Upsets Me The Most About This...
The Mike Gallagher radio show is syndicated by Salem Radio
Network (http://www.srnonline.com), which is owned by Salem
Communications (http://www.salem.cc). The tag-line on the
Salem Communications homepage reads "Reaching audiences
interested in Christian and family-themed content and
conservative values on air, online and in print." As a
Christian myself, I find Mr. Gallagher's comments to be
morally repugnant, and decidedly un-Christian. The Bible that
I read tells me that a Christian is supposed to "abstain
from all appearance of evil" (1 Thess 5:22, KJV). I'll
be the first to admit that I'm not perfect and that I've done
plenty that has the appearance of evil, but a publicly traded,
Christian corporation has to hold itself to a higher standard.
If this "Christian" corporation does not sever ties
with this idiot, or at least issue a public statement
denouncing this blatant bigotry, they do a grave disservice to
the Christ that they claim to serve.
