Purpose Driven Life: Can Rick Warren Change the World?
Fox News ^

Pastor Rick Warren, bestselling author of "The Purpose Driven Life," wants to use a global network of churches to revolutionize the way we tackle what he calls the "global giants" of poverty, disease, illiteracy, spiritual emptiness and egocentric leadership.

1). What a loon! I basically support his efforts, but he seems like a real oddball and that makes me skeptical. Watch the video and see for yourself.

I think Warren is looking to line his pockets. Reminds me of Joel Osteen.

1. These same people probably bought a Pat Robertson Energy Shake
or a copy of Jerry Falwell's Clinton Chronicles.

really mean what he says re; poverty.

Even so, I have a discomfort with his plan because i fear the old "You can have this food if you just convert" tactic. Or the iron fist in the velvet glove one.. "I"m not trying to change you, but I'm praying the Holy Spirit will move you to do what is right".

4. A lot of churches used his book as a tool of manipulation...
...which, of course, is not his fault. I know of one in particular that set up a full 40 day pomp-and-glory event in which they gave away a free copy of the book, organized people into "Life Study Groups," and at the end of the 40 days there was a "Ministry Fair."

They got a phenomenal number of people to volunteer for duties such as parking attendant, rest room attendant, donut-cutter-upper (they served donuts on Sunday mornings and had platters of half and three quarters donuts for people who didn't want a whole one)...all of the unpaid volunteer positions involved drone work, particularly the low-level tasks that the paid staff did not want to do.

No problem with soliciting volunteers...every church does it...but when the solicitation gets wrapped around the concept of "God's purpose for your life," it's manipulation. That purpose (for those who are believers) is supposed to come from God, not from a church that needs its toilets cleaned.

The leader of the global church will be the Anti-Christ (up to interpretation as is most of the Bible)

5. Totally unacceptable...
a Christian who claims to actually want to do something about poverty, disease, illiteracy, spiritual emptiness and egocentric leadership.

I can see why that would upset the freepers so much. They'd much rather have a Pat Robertson who wants to travel around the world cheerleading for death and destruction.
