Let me get this straight.

Afghanistan, growing opium, just fine.

1. WHOOPS! Didn't we get assurances when we attacked Afganistan

that the opium growing industry was going to be completely eradicated?

In fact, wasn't there a program of some sort to try to get the Afgani people to grow what the bush** admin saw to be acceptable agricultural products? Because I could never figure out what they were gonna talk them into growing that would be as profitable as the poppy plant. Or for that matter, what would even thrive over there in that environment.

Oh well, I guess that plan went the same way as the Laura Bushs' 'I'm gonna see that every Afgani girl gets a good education and is treated like a human being, not a beast of burden'.

2. The Taliban

had just about eradicated the poppy crops in Afghanistan before the US invaded. Since the invasion of the US, Afghanistan now supplies the world with @ 85% of opium.

3. Well, you know...

I have to say I'd rather see people on opium or heroin (provided they had a steady supply) than coke. Cokeheads tend to become violent, paranoid, and unpredictable; smackheads, on the other hand, nod out and aren't any trouble to anyone (again, as long as they can get a regular fix). Not to mention that even long-term use of opiates causes no organic damage to the body, whereas cocaine does.

If I had to pick one of them to eradicate, I know which one it would be.
