Sounds like we've been hoodwinked on the JBR case.
They seem to have caught a serial confessor in Bangkok. Whew. Just as with the Bush's fake terra alerts, the actual facts mean nothing...just so long as it keeps Iraq and Bush's war crimes off the ticker for another day or two.

8. personally, I think apologies are due from several posters here on DU,
who immediately had this man convicted, before he was even charged, much less had a trial, and who excoriated everyone who had other opinions on the case.

2. If true, maybe the current dead-white-girl frenzy will die out . . .
And we can hear about the Preznit and his tame shyster pissing on the constitution.

3. I wonder what all the "details not known to the general public" were.
Probably turn out they were published in one or more of the dozens of books on the case.

4. Who can blame him for wanting out of Thailand?
His chances are better here, guilty or not.

7. Why? I'm going to Thailand next month.
Even my sister, who lives there, says Bangkok can be a bit of a shock for the unitiated. But most of the rest of the country is pretty idyllic. I'm going to Ko Samui and surrounding islands. Looks pretty cool to me!

10. I had read yesterday
that he was suspected of child molestation in Thailand. That's the
only reason I posted that. Don't know if it is true or not, I see no
mention of it in today's news. I just assumed the penalty would be
a bit harsher for that sort of crime there. A lawyer was talking about
it last night on one of the cable news outlets.

I'm sure it is a beautiful country. Enjoy your trip! :hi:

11. In all fairness...
My sister has lived there for about three or four years now. She loves the islands, but when I suggested that we might stay over a night in Bangkok after the long 17-hour flight, she said NO, don't do it. After 17 hours on a plane, taking a couple more to get the hell out of Bangkok will be well worth the effort. She says it's a pretty scary place if you're not ready for it.

I'll take her word for it...we're going directly to a puddle-jumper to the islands. Do not pass Go.

13. I loved Bangkok!
Yeah, it's a little....intense. Ginormous. Sprawling. Crowded. Fast-paced. Traffic is awful. But it's very cosmopolitan and exciting, and you can't pass up a chance to take the scenic boat down the river and visit some of the most beautiful temples in the world.

I was there for a week this spring - total tourist. I loved it! (OK, I liked Chiang Mai better, more historic and human-scaled. But I'm glad I didn't miss Bangkok.)

Nothing to do with the alleged killer, just a drive-by pro-Bangkok post. :)

16. Sounds like
he just wanted his time in front of the cameras. Apparently he's not a killer just a child predator, still a low-life if those allegations are true.

17. I Always Thought the Parents Were Guilty
Also, don't forget the original evidence that made the Ramsays seem guilty all those years ago, still unexplained: all the items used during the attack, from all weapons to the ransom note, came from inside the house, and the ransom note was practiced, on different pieces of paper, in the house--a stranger who broke in to kidnap, rape and murder the child sat around, after searching for materials, and composed note after note until they were just right?; there were both old and new vaginal injuries on the child, it was not just one abuse; there were fibers from Patsy Ramsay's sweater underneath the duct tape on the child's mouth; the weird "ransom" note praised John Ramsay, then asked for a ransom of an odd amount that exactly matched the recent bonuses received by John Ramsay (and I think I heard years ago that somebody said the handwriting matched hers); they both refused to cooperate with police, would not answer questions or take an official polygraph, immediately moved away, immediately hired not only a team of lawyers but a public relations firm, bizarre; there were no footprints in the snow leading up to or away from the window supposedly broken into; the child was found in their own basement after the "kidnap" note, etc., etc.

I think this will end up being a fake, obsessed liar, for any number of reasons--there seems to be an ongoing case against this person in Thailand, trying to escape it; has read a lot about this case, etc. Remember that the Ramsays were hated by the public for a reason: their porno videos, porn kiddie beauty contests, adult dress-up and striptease acts, and all the rest that they did to her. They never cooperated with the investigation, and all the evidence pointed to them. The most frightening things about this case, besides the tragic horror of the crime and this poor child's life itself, has been the way the media, as a pack, will be duped, wrenched around one way, then another, this way and that, "Yes" then "No," "Up" then "Down," any old way they are told to--this Keith Olbermann yesterday actually asked, seriously, if "we" should "all" apologize to John Ramsay--at the slightest excuse. It is scary the way any rumor or claim becomes the "pack truth." I don't believe this case will ever be solved; no one is brave enough to take it on as it seems to be.
