Sigh. I have defended Randi thru thick and thin...
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 04:06 PM by The Witch
But this is really upsetting me. This boy is going off to basic TOMORROW. How on earth does she suppose she's helping? How can we defend charges that we're not supporting the troops when she's telling a medic who's leaving TOMORROW that he should not go? It's not that I don't see her point, but I think that she would be critical of someone who did the same on the other side... sigh.

Oh well, we all have bad days. It's just that if I were that kid, I'd burst into tears on her show... and that wouldn't be how I'd want to talk to one of my favorite radio hosts.

Edit, I see that she thought he was a fake. OK, well, I wouldn't know. Thanks for your perspectives, anyone. one of the reasons I post my thoughts here is to get my butt debunked if I'm buying something I shouldn't be buying. :)

1. I cant listen to her anymore
she's annoying, and all she wants to do is listen to herself.

14. I agree. I can't hack the constant talking over everyone and the
self-congratulatory attitude.

I can't imagine a person talking like that. My guess is he was a plant. And she probably knew it.

3. I'm with Randi on this one
Randi has used the "smoke some pot" line before, this isn't the first time. I would try to convince anybody who has signed up for service to find some way out of their commitment.

during the first Gulf War my husband wanted
to go "help" our soldiers and my dad had a
similiar conversation with him . I'm so thankful
he didn't join .

I have a cousin who went, and while I despise this war, -- no ALL war, I am greatful for those who participate only as caregivers, and nurturers.

Someone has to pick up the peices..... of all the casualties

7. Since I remember Vietnam.
Recruits were advised to do all kinds of things back then to get out of being drafted. Of course it came back to bite them in the future when they were accused of shirking their duty. That's why I have never made much of a stink about Bush's AWOL from TANG. It was considered the right thing to do back then. The big difference was that he got an honorable discharge whereas the others who deserted or refused to go from conscience didn't. It was only years later when they were offered amnesty.

I still believe that military should have the right to disobey orders that they consider immoral. It would go a long way in curtailing the power of this present criminal cabal if there are enough of them that do this. Bush you see is all powerful only when the military backs him up. Without them he's just a psycho with a podium.

9. Yes, and let's remember, Bush was for Vietnam, too.
What a piece of work he was even then to have been FOR Vietnam, while doing his level best to not have to join the fight.

11. You know that the original intent was for this country to only have
a defensive citizen military raised from each state as necessary, much like the National Guard. They didn't see a need for the expense and danger of a large standing military, knowing that if we had one, we would be tempted to use it.

was a citizen's militia in concept. Every citizen did a number of years of military duty. (Back then it was only men. Although I always thought women should too.) The problem is that our military has been misused and abused since the Korean War as much as it has been used for legitimate military actions. We do need to do something to disallow this from ever happening again.

8. I hope if she is telling people to smoke pot
or say they are gay to get out of the military she lets them know that such a statement or action will follow them forever. The discharge papers will have to be shown to any future employer.

but I sure wouldn't want to be applying for a job at a conservative company with pot or homosexuality listed as the reason for my discharge.

One of the things that helped end the Vietnam war was refusal to fight and refusal to go....Make the damned leaders that pick the fights and commit to the wars do the fighting ....
