Suggestion: don't mention politics when talking about the boycottees
Instead, bitch about how their products suck at every opportunity.

Say your kids slept through the latest Disney cartoon, or wanted to go home around the half hour mark.

Do the opposite for the competition. Praise their quality. Look at ABC TV's programming's crown jewels, then look what shows are in the competition at the same time slot, and keep saying how THOSE shows rock.

It doesn't really matter whether the products are better or not.

They might take that more seriously....

2. Always. It's a shame there's no food companies involved.
Nasty stories about THOSE tend to be especially effective.

3. Oooooo. An even better one. And true, too.
American Airlines has WAY better service than United.

I can vouch for that -- I've flown both.

4. It doesn't matter what reality is
Wow, that sounds exactly like the guys in power. Do and say whatever is needed to win.

No wonder nothing will ever actually change. Everybody wants power and control, and...whatever. I'm sure Disney will be brought to its knees.

5. The reality is that their products are a reflection of what they support.
Part of their value is inevitably where the money goes that purchases them. This is common sense, and their products suffer as a result.

6. I didn't say they weren't
I was commenting on the "It doesn't really matter whether the products are better or not" line.

What? Iraq is a mess? No it isn't.

Granted, it's obviously not the same thing. However, it is the same thought process. It doesn't matter if their products are the greatest to ever grace our consumer tastes, just say they aren't so that we can beat them. Repeat that enough times, and it might become true.

It's just funny the way things work. As another example, people will say that we no longer want to live in fear caused by this administration. Then they'll use fear of losing jobs, retirement, and health insurance to win an election. Yes, all may in fact be more likely than you being killed in a terrorist bombing, but fear is fear. Grounded in reality or not, fear is still fear. Everybody uses it to their advantage.

The products that you support may not be as good, but just say that they are, so that we can hit them back where it hurts. That's called manipulation, maybe even propaganda, and it's just funny how things work in this world.

7. Sigh. I was wondering when THAT canard would show up.

Think of it as the Second Amendment for speech -- if they shoot you, you have the right to shoot back.

8. I didn't say you couldn't, or even shouldn't

However, that is the same thought process as Kristol, Cheney, etc. As they say, all is fair in love and war. Canard or not, it's the same tactic. Also, it works in reverse; if you shoot them, they get to shoot back.

We're all playing the same game. It's time someone came up with something different, but everyone wants and craves that power that winning this one game gives them.
