Why didn't we torture Tim McVeigh?
He was a terrorist. He had connections whose names we never learned. Why didn't we torture him?

Will we now torture subsequent McVeighs?

1. 'Cause he was white
I think we should apply these Bush approved interrogation tactics to members of Congress under investigation. I can't wait to see Bill Frist belly-slapped and waterboarded.

9. Here, here.
It's because he was white. They even let Johnny Taliban Walker have a day in court. For the same reason.

I don't think we should apply B.A.I.T. to anyone for any reason. But I think LeighAnn was using :sarcasm:

13. John Walker Lindh got screwed

he didn't have his day in court. he pleaded guilty to avoid a death sentence & have a chance at freedom when he's 40. what was his crime? converting to Islam? joining the Taliban, whom we paid, what was it - 40 million dollars, shortly before 9-11? he fought with the Taliban, NOT Al Queda. he didn't fight against American troops, he fought against the N.A. and what exactly was his choice? quit the Taliban? dumb ass was in a serious pickle. he was tortured by our brave troops - the method used to return him to America (strapped to a stretcher) was pure humiliation. his wounds were left untreated.

he was the most conveinient propaganda scapegoat of the Afgan invasion. just when 'American Taliban' was beginning to stick to the Christian Right, he came along to be tarred with that phrase. it adhered to him & only him.

14. Actually, no
Thank you for your generosity, I agree with you that we should never torture, but I also feel that anyone who signs that bill and soils our nation like this should be held up to their own standards. If this thing happens and torture by Americans becomes legal, I should like to see anyone whose name is attached to it that happens to come under investigation waterboarded, belly-slapped, deprived of sleep, forced to stand naked in the freezing cold with water thrown on them until they confess to whatever it is they are being acccused of. These people are traitors and a disgrace to humanity and some day I hope Bush's law is reversed and they are all charged with war crimes. Every last Congressperson that signs that bill.

17. No, they tortured Lindh.

But then, Lindh was a muslim. And in their view he wasn't really white anymore.

22. Sell tickets and defray the national debt.
Actually, my sister wants to put them in the stocks and send them on a fundraising tour. Is ten dollars too much for a bag of rotten fruit to throw at Frist or Cheney?

5. Terry Nichols is still around and may know who bankrolled the job?
I haven't heard no one suggesting torturing him to get him to spill the beans either.

6. Well, let's see. Timothy McVeigh had a lawyer and, as an American,
he had Constitutional Rights.

McVeigh, actually, was willing to barter for more time with information that he had to tell, but Ashcroft wanted him dead so he refused to extend the date for the execution.

Makes you kinda think.

8. Clinton didn't see the need to resort to military "justice". As I recall,
the plain old criminal justice system worked just fine. Halliburton didn't make a dime off of McVeigh.

20. maybe because he was part of them?
notice he wasn't excuted until bush came into power-
gotta keep those lips silent- they might leak things that make the * mad.

We taught mcVeigh to be a killer- he himself said he was frustrated to have been trained to fight in Gulf War 1- Now that I'm thinkin of it, the sniper was also a Desert storm vet, ....

Why don't we torture the journalists who won't reveal thier sources,-? uh... that's probably way too possible to even be sarcastic about....

as George Carlin said about Superman ... "fights a never ending battle for 'TRUTH', 'JUSTICE', AND THE AMERICAN WAY, gee, I always thought truth and justice WAS part of the American Way!".
