Script for Calling a Senator
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 10:24 AM by Reader Rabbit
Just in case you are having trouble organizing your thoughts.

You: Will the Senator be voting for or against torture?

Option #1

Sen: Against!

You: Outstanding! And is the Senator prepared to filibuster in order to defend the Constitution and the rights guaranteed to all citizens in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendments?

Sen: Ummm

You: {Time to ad lib. Be super friendly and persuasive!}

Option #2
Sen: For! (Phone answering lackey will probably use weasel words, like "compromise," etc.

You: Given that this bill is a violation of the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendments, does this mean that the Senator fully intends to violate his oath of office? (i.e, to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution")

Sen: Blah, blah, blah,

You: {Make an offer to read the Amendments in question for the Senator's benefit.}

Sen: Blah, blah, blah.

You: {Ad lib, but remain polite as possible. A quote from one of the Founding Fathers might be appropriate.}

A little historical framework is always a good thing!

2. Push the oath of office violation, folks.
Although I played the guilt angle. I asked Gordon Smith's lackey how I could teach my students in good conscience when their elected representatives were so willing to disregard it!

He said, "I can't answer that question."

Dipshit.

3. After being on hold for Barbara Boxer's for about a minute
the woman who answered said Boxer hasn't issued a public statement "but she would be happy to take down my comments and relay them to the Senator". So I told her what I thought. Mentioned the ex post facto abomination too.

Feinstein's number is simply busy.
